Sqwá First Nation - Elders Coordinator (Full-Time)

Sqwá First Nation is seeking a compassionate, organized, and community-focused Elders Coordinator to develop and coordinate meaningful programs, activities, and events that promote wellness, cultural connection, and participation among Elders in the community.

Under the direction of the Director of Social Services, the Elders Coordinator is responsible for planning and delivering a variety of recreational, social, educational, and cultural activities tailored to the interests and needs of Elders. This role also coordinates community events, luncheons, trips, and other initiatives that strengthen relationships and enhance Elders' connection to the community.

Duties And Responsibilities

Program Coordination

Develop, coordinate, and deliver programs and activities for Elders.
Organize events and luncheons for community Elders, including All Nation luncheons.
Plan and coordinate overnight, weekend, and holiday trips for Elders, including accommodations, transportation, scheduling, and other required logistics.
Maintain detailed and accurate records of purchases, inventory, and distribution activities.
Keep the Director of Social Services informed of changes, emerging needs, and program requirements.
Ensure programs and activities are organized and delivered safely and effectively.

Community Engagement & Support

Build and maintain strong, respectful relationships with Elders and other community members to help ensure their needs are understood and supported.
Attend and provide support for Elders Committee meetings.
Support additional initiatives, activities, and community wellness programs focused on Elders.
Promote opportunities for Elders to participate, connect, and engage within the community.

Other Responsibilities

Provide backup or relief support to other team members or departments when appropriate based on training and experience.
Supervise and provide direction to Summer Students as required.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Social Services.
Travel as required to support programs, activities, and trips.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum 2 years of experience working in Social Services and/or community services.
Proven experience managing and coordinating community events and programs.
Strong organizational and time-management skills with excellent attention to detail.
Basic computer proficiency for inventory tracking, record keeping, and reporting.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of appropriate safety protocols and procedures.
Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
Ability to safely lift, carry, and deliver items as required.
Flexibility to work early mornings and evenings when required for program delivery.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to Sqwá First Nation policies and procedures.
Knowledge of and respect for Stó:lō culture, traditions, and language is considered an asset.
Experience working within a First Nations community is considered an asset.
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.
Professional appearance with a friendly, respectful, and cooperative manner.

Compensation & Work Schedule

Status: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Salary: $31.50 - $37.50 per hour
Location: Sqwá First Nation, Chilliwack, BC
Reports To: Director of Social Services
Direct Reports: Summer Students
Travel: Some travel is required
