Role Description The Mechanical Designer is a full-time, hybrid role based in Oakville, ON, with flexibility for some work from home. This role is responsible for developing mechanical design concepts, preparing technical drawings and CAD models, and supporting the design of building systems for retrofit and new construction projects. Day-to-day tasks include performing mechanical calculations, assisting with equipment and material selection, coordinating design details with project managers, engineers, and external stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards. The Mechanical Designer will support the preparation of design documentation, participate in site visits and surveys as needed. The role also involves collaborating with internal teams to deliver practical, cost-effective solutions aligned with the firm's quality and sustainability objectives.
Qualifications
- Strong skills in Technical Drawing and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) for mechanical and building systems.
- Proficiency in Mechanical Engineering principles, including system layout and component selection.
- Post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a closely related discipline.
- Knowledge of building services systems (HVAC, plumbing) and relevant codes and standards.
- Ability to interpret architectural and structural drawings and coordinate mechanical designs with other disciplines.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Experience with projects involving condominiums, multi-unit residential, or commercial buildings is an asset.
- Eligibility to work in Canada; professional engineering licensure or pursuit of licensure is considered an advantage.
