Join our Health & Safety team as an entry-level Health & Safety Advisor. You’ll help keep our projects safe, supported, and on track by providing day-to-day coordination and program support to teams across the organization. This role is primarily administrative and program-focused, with 20–30% travel to active project sites.
The Health and Safety Advisor will maintain direct, day-to-day advisory access for active projects, helping project teams navigate health and safety requirements, maintain compliance with company and client expectations, and ensure safety activities are completed effectively and consistently.
The successful candidate will work closely with Project Managers, field staff, and the Health & Safety team to provide responsive support, including safety documentation, inspections and audits, incident reporting and investigation, corrective action tracking, and general safety program administration.
This position reports directly to the Health & Safety Manager and provides an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to build a career in occupational health and safety.
Project & Safety Program Support
- Provide day-to-day health and safety support and guidance to project teams.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with Project Managers and field personnel.
- Advise project teams with implementation of company health and safety programs, procedures, and client requirements.
- Review and assist with project-specific safety documentation, identifying compliance gaps and tracking required follow-ups
- Assist in developing and delivering safety communications, alerts, bulletins, and other safety initiatives.
- Monitor outstanding safety actions and assist project teams with timely completion and closeout.
Safety Administration
- Maintain accurate and organized health and safety records and documentation.
- Analyze compliance with training, certifications, inspections, audits, incidents, corrective actions, and other safety-related requirements.
- Support the administration and maintenance of safety management systems and databases.
- Review and compile client and contractor prequalification requirements and safety submissions.
- Coordinate internal reporting and monitoring of safety program performance.
Field Inspections & Audits
- Coordinate and conduct field safety inspections and audits as required.
- Support project teams in identification and evaluation of hazards, and unsafe conditions, to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Document findings and support the development and tracking of corrective actions.
- Follow up with project teams to verify that identified actions have been addressed.
- Provide field-based safety support as required.
Incident Response & Investigation
- Support project teams with the initial response and reporting of incidents, near misses, and hazard events.
- Support incident investigations, including gathering information, interviewing personnel, documenting findings, and identifying corrective actions.
- Maintain incident records and tracking investigation and corrective action completion.
- Escalate significant incidents or emerging safety concerns to the Health & Safety Manager.
- Support communication and follow-up with project teams following incidents.
Training & Safety Promotion
- Coordinate health and safety training and orientation requirements.
- Support the development and delivery of safety communications and awareness initiatives.
- Promote a positive safety culture focused on hazard awareness, worker involvement, learning, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience
- Certificate, diploma, or degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working toward or eligible for relevant safety designation (eg NSCO, CRST) is an asset
- Valid, clean Class 5 driver's license (and willingness to travel)
- Ability to pass pre-access drug and alcohol screening or client security clearances (if applicable to industrial/remote sites).
- Physical ability to navigate varied field terrain during inspections
- Previous experience in a safety, administrative, project coordination, or related role is an asset.
- Knowledge of provincial occupational health and safety legislation and hazard assessment principles is an asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, Excel, Word, Teams) and familiarity with digital safety platforms (eg, SiteDocs, OK Alone, or custom Power Apps/Power BI dashboards) is an asset.
- Prior Experience conducting inspections, audits, or incident investigations is an asset.
