Role Overview

The Director, Marketing and Business Development will lead the firm’s marketing, business development and client relationship initiatives, working directly with the Managing Partners. You will work closely with Partners, Principals and Directors to oversee sales and marketing initiatives established by the Managing Partners, conducting regular follow-ups to monitor progress, provide guidance and ensure accountability and execution. You will also be responsible for overseeing the firm’s overall branding, content, digital and brand communications, as well as planning and hosting client, referral source and internal events with dedicated support staff available for execution support. You will play a key leadership role in supporting partners with their networking and business development activities to drive the firm’s continued growth.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify new opportunities, client needs and industry trends that inform the firm’s sales and marketing strategy.
  • Work closely with the Managing Partners to develop practical networking and business development plans.
  • Regularly meet with Partners, Principals and Directors to arrange meetings with existing and prospective referral sources, and track activity against agreed objectives.
  • Maintain the firm’s CRM database of professional contacts and referral sources, and monitor referrals and business opportunities generated through marketing activities.
  • Coordinate the publication of one technical article each week across the firm’s service lines, including editorial planning, drafting support and technical review.
  • Manage the firm’s LinkedIn presence, oversee content across all social media platforms, and assist partners and managers in strengthening their individual online profiles.
  • Oversee the firm’s client newsletters, e-blasts, news posts, event invitations and internal communications, and manage the firm’s email marketing campaigns.
  • Maintain the firm’s website, brand identity and marketing collateral, and coordinate with external designers, photographers, website providers and other marketing vendors.
  • Lead the firm’s search engine optimization (SEO) and website analytics, using tools such as Google Analytics to improve search visibility, website traffic and online lead generation.
  • Plan, organize and host the firm’s signature networking events for women business leaders, banking relationships and law firms, as well as client appreciation events, seminars, webinars and live-streamed sessions.
  • Organize and host internal social events, employee engagement initiatives and charitable campaigns in coordination with the firm’s HR and leadership teams.
  • Manage the firm’s sponsorships and strategic partnerships with industry associations, community organizations and referral partners, ensuring each delivers measurable brand and business development value.
  • Support recruitment marketing and employer branding initiatives in partnership with the HR team.
  • Present sales and marketing updates to the Managing Partners, reporting on results against objectives and recommending new initiatives to strengthen the firm’s reputation, relationships and market presence.
  • Prepare and execute an annual sales, marketing and business development plan with measurable objectives, and manage the related marketing, events and sponsorship budgets.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in marketing, sales and business development; experience in an accounting, legal or other professional services firm is strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute measurable marketing strategies, informed by market research and performance data, that generate opportunities and contribute to firm growth.
  • Demonstrated experience planning, executing and hosting high-quality in-person and virtual events, including professional networking events, webinars and live streams.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the confidence to build relationships with senior executives, business owners and professionals.
  • Excellent written communication, editing and presentation skills, including experience writing articles, blogs, newsletters and e-blast content.
  • Working knowledge of SEO best practices and web analytics tools such as Google Analytics is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and LinkedIn, and strong working knowledge of CRM systems, email marketing platforms and social media scheduling tools.
