We’re actively searching for our next team member for the position of:
CONTROLLER
Lead TMI Group’s accounting and financial reporting function within a complex, multi-entity, multi-currency environment. Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including cost accounting, taxation, internal controls, month-end close, consolidation, management reporting, and statutory reporting. Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial information, while providing sound financial judgment and insights to support effective management decision-making, strengthen financial governance, and drive business performance.
Responsibilities Include
People Management AND DEPARTMENTAL ADMINISTRATION
- Oversee financial operations for TMI Group of companies, including cost analysis, inventory control, fixed asset/capex reporting and financial reporting
- Lead team of accountants, coaching and mentoring for superior results, as well as personal growth and development
- Ensure staff have clarity of expectations, as well as regular feedback, to drive effective results
- Remove obstacles and clarify priorities for direct reports, addressing performance inconsistencies, process inefficiencies and other employee matters that may hinder achievement of goals and objectives
- Provide leadership and influence to multiple areas of the business outside the finance function, ensuring process efficiency and internal controls that support timely and accurate record keeping
- Work closely with TML and other TMG companies to ensure consistent treatment of financial data and reporting
- Serve as a signing authority for TMI Group’s bank accounts, ensuring all established controls are effectively adhered to
FINANCIAL REPORTING, ANALYSIS AND MANAGEMENT
- Lead month-end process, ensuring timely, complete and accurate financial close
- Prepare and present complete and accurate monthly financial statements for all TMI group legal entities and complete the consolidation for TMI Group companies
- Deliver timely, accurate and meaningful management reporting to TMI’s Senior Leadership Team
- Anticipate and take appropriate actions for business process updates that impact financial reporting
- Lead year end process, including the management and oversight of all TMI Group companies’ audits, ensuring accurate and timely completion
- Provide sound financial analysis and business judgment that supports management decision making
- Manage TMI Group cash and treasury functions, in close collaboration with the Manager AP & AR, as well as the TML Corporate Group
- Participate in financial forecasting and budgeting
- Oversee complex tax scenarios and work closely with TML Corporate Group to ensure accurate interpretation and compliance in all jurisdictions for corporate income tax, sales tax and SR&ED
- Manage capital accounting and reporting that provides both accurate accounting of the Company’s existing assets, as well as streamlined approach to evaluating potential new investments
QUALITY AND COMPLIANCE
- Own financial data governance for TMI Group
- Develop and manage system of internal controls for the effective safeguarding of TMI Group’s assets
- Develop and manage system of internal controls for effective risk management.
- Ensure all controls are in documented and adhered to
- Work closely with other managers within Finance function to ensure integrity of data and financial information
health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation, including the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, etc.
Qualifications - CPA accounting designation is required
- Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field of study
- 10+ years of progressive experience in senior finance roles, including previous people leadership experience
- Experience in complex, multi-entity, multi-currency environment performing consolidations and cost accounting (ideally in a manufacturing business)
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to impact and influence people outside of direct reporting structure
- Ability to work independently at times
- Ability to work with employees at all levels of an organization
- Solid oral and written communication skills
- Sound judgment
- Computer literate with:
- Advanced experience in MS Excel
- Advanced experience in ERP business software
- Intermediate to advanced experience in MS Dynamics Great Plains is an asset
- Ability to train and motivate staff members
- Strong analytical skills
- Attention to detail
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines
