Salary Range: $127,500 to $157,000 annually, plus eligibility to participate in the TTC Pension Plan’s Short-Term Incentive Plan, with a target incentive opportunity of 15%.

Position Summary
The Manager, Technical Accounting and Reconciliations is a key member of the Finance team reporting to the Senior Director, Finance. The role is responsible for ensuring the correct interpretation and application of accounting standards (i.e., IFRS and GAAP) to complex transactions, investment activities, and financial reporting matters for the Plan. The incumbent collaborates closely with external auditors, custodians, investment managers, and internal stakeholders, serves as the primary point of contact for accounting and auditing policy inquiries, and provides technical guidance on accounting matters across the organization.
The Manager oversees the investment reconciliation function and supports quarterly and annual financial reporting, including Board and Committee reporting requirements. The role provides day-to-day leadership of reconciliation and controls resources, ensuring high-quality and timely deliverables, while driving continuous improvement across accounting, reporting, reconciliation, and control processes.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards (e.g., IFRS/GAAP) and internal policies, and maintain strong documentation and audit trails for all reporting processes.
- Support the Senior Director, Finance in the preparation of the quarterly and annual financial statements for TTCPP.
- Collaborate with the Senior Director, Finance in the preparation of Committee and Board reporting materials.
- Lead research on new and existing accounting standards and interpret their application to the organization.
- Assess and communicate the financial reporting, disclosure, system, and operational impacts of new accounting pronouncements.
- Prepare and review memoranda supporting accounting positions on unusual or complex transactions before they are executed.
- Review financial statement disclosures and ensure compliance with IFRS/GAAP, securities requirements and regulatory standards.
- Develop accounting manuals, technical guidance, and reference materials for the organization.
Reconciliations, Controls & Audit
- Act as primary contact for external auditors on technical accounting matters and resolve audit findings and accounting issues.
- Lead the oversight and governance of private markets data within the organization’s investment data management platform, ensuring the completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of cash flow, valuation, commitment, and performance information received from investment managers, custodians, and other external service providers.
- Oversee reconciliations between investment manager reports, custodian records, and internal investment systems, resolving exceptions and strengthening controls to support reliable investment reporting and decision-making.
- Provide day-to-day oversight of reconciliation activities, ensuring the quality, accuracy, completeness, and timely completion of weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations across the investment portfolio.
- Review exceptions arising from the reconciliation process and ensure issues are appropriately investigated, escalated, and resolved with custodians, investment managers, and internal stakeholders.
- Establish reconciliation processes and standards, including the design of controls and monitoring activities to support timely completion and reporting.
- Review and approve reconciliation analyses and supporting documentation prior to finalization.
- Support internal and external audits by collaborating with stakeholders, preparing documentation, and responding to inquiries.
Stakeholder Management & Continuous Improvement
- Lead implementation projects for new accounting standards and coordinate system, process and disclosure changes.
- Provide guidance to accounting and operational teams on technical accounting matters.
- Train Finance team members on accounting developments and emerging standards.
- Collaborate with Investment Operations to ensure data integrity and alignment between financial statement presentation and supporting disclosures.
- Provide support, training, guidance, and coaching on investment accounting matters of varying complexity by addressing questions and clarifying ambiguities.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting, reporting, reconciliation, and control processes through innovation, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Recommend and implement process enhancements that improve efficiency, scalability, accuracy, and risk management.
People Leadership
- Lead, coach, and support direct report(s), fostering a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team environment.
- Establish priorities, assign work, and monitor progress to ensure objectives and deadlines are achieved.
- Review and approve work completed by direct report(s), maintaining accountability for its quality, accuracy, completeness, and adherence to established standards and controls.
- Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and development opportunities to support employee growth and career development.
- Conduct performance management activities, including goal setting, performance reviews, and development planning.
- Identify training and capability needs and support succession and workforce planning activities.
- Promote collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement across the Finance team.
Skills & Qualifications
Education
- CPA designation required.
- CFA designation is considered an asset.
- Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with developments in finance, investment accounting operations, investment products, audit practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Leadership training or certification is considered an asset.
Experience & Skills
- 7+ years of progressive experience in pension accounting and investments, including pension liabilities, capital markets or asset management, or in related roles within the accounting or financial services industry.
- Public accounting experience, preferably with a Big Four accounting firm, is considered a strong asset.
- Knowledge of investment products, including equities, fixed income, real estate, private equity, private debt, and infrastructure investments.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS required; exposure to U.S. GAAP is considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of accounting and investment regulations, compliance, reporting and note disclosure requirements.
- Demonstrated people-leadership experience, including assigning and reviewing work, coaching employees, providing feedback, and supporting performance and development goals.
- Practical experience with financial statement preparation.
- Experience researching and interpreting accounting standards and preparing or reviewing technical accounting position papers or memoranda.
- Experience supporting audits, managing audit deliverables, and working directly with external auditors and regulators.
- Strong research and communication skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Word and PowerPoint, as well as financial systems and software such as Sage Intacct, custodian systems, or similar tools.
