Specifications Writer

Turner Fleischer is one of Canada’s most progressive design studios with 250+ committed, creative and driven professionals. We excel at developing client-centric concepts that are based on their needs but grounded in 50 years of experience getting projects built. Our in-house design departments include Architecture, Interior Design and Experiential Graphic Design. In addition, we have a Digital Practice Department, who commits to the implementation of BIM, research + development, and the infusion of cutting-edge technology into our projects and practice.

Who We Are Looking For

As a Specification Writer, you will support the development, coordination, and delivery of project specifications across a variety of projects. With guidance from the Senior Specification Writer, you will prepare and coordinate specification documents while collaborating with CA and project teams across the Studio. Through this work, you will continue to build your expertise in construction documentation, CCDC contracts, CSI/CSC MasterFormat, construction methodologies, building materials, building science, and applicable codes and regulations.

What You Will Do:

Prepare and coordinate project specifications aligned with industry standards, project requirements, and design intent.

Review material samples, product data, substitutions, alternates, and other submittals for alignment with project specifications, with guidance as required.

Support specification-related work during tender and construction, including responses to RFIs, addenda, site instructions, and specification revisions.

Research materials and products to support project requirements for functionality, aesthetics, sustainability, and budget.
Assist in maintaining studio-wide and client-specific Master Specifications by gathering current product, regulatory, technical, and project information, preparing updates, and applying approved revisions consistently.

What You Will Bring:

A Degree or Diploma from an accredited institution in Architecture.

1 - 3 years of progressively responsible roles as a Specification Writer within architecture firms.

Proficiency with MS Office Suite.

Understanding of current building codes, building construction and details.

Proficiency with SpecSimple, VisiSpecs, BlueBeam or Revit is considered an asset.

Strong communication, critical thinking, and effective problem-solving skills.

Ability to work in a hybrid role, with 2 days in the Studio.

What We Will Provide:

The hiring range for this position is $65,000 to $75,000 annually. This range falls within a broader salary band established for the role. Final compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate’s experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity.
