Job Description
The Senior Project Planner is responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing project schedules to ensure successful project execution and delivery. The role involves project planning, scheduling, progress measurement, forecasting, resource loading, resource optimization, and performance reporting across engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup phases. The Senior Planning Engineer works closely with project managers, discipline leads, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
- Project Planning & Scheduling
- Develop and maintain integrated resource loaded project schedules using Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar scheduling tools.
- Establish project Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), coding structures, and project execution schedules.
- Develop baseline schedules and identify critical milestones.
- Integrate schedules from multiple disciplines, contractors, and stakeholders into a master project schedule.
- Perform critical path analysis and identify schedule constraints.
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning teams to identify resource requirements.
- Analyze manpower demand, productivity rates, and resource utilization across project phases.
- Perform resource leveling and optimization to improve schedule efficiency and workforce deployment.
- Identify schedule variances, delays, and potential impacts to project milestones.
- Coordinate with cost control teams to support Earned Value Management (EVM) processes.
- Prepare weekly, monthly, and executive-level planning and scheduling reports.
- Develop dashboards and performance metrics to communicate project status.
- Present schedule updates, forecasts, and key project insights to management and clients.
- Participate in project review meetings and planning workshops.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align project priorities and schedules.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline.
Experience
- 8-10+ years of experience in project planning, scheduling, and project controls.
- Experience supporting large-scale EPC, infrastructure, energy, oil & gas, mining, industrial, or construction projects.
- Proven ability to manage complex, multi-disciplinary project schedules.
