ABOUT US
Turning Leaf is a non-profit, charitable organization that provides person-centered, crisis and treatment services to vulnerable and marginalized individuals living with mental illness and intellectual challenge in our community. Turning Leaf’s support is customized to every individual’s needs and risk level. We offer crisis-intervention and treatment services, community support, day program services, residential support (including emergency housing, 24-hour homes, cluster housing, and home share), a harm reduction program, clinical services including in-house nursing services, indigenous services and more. Governed by a Board of Directors, Turning Leaf provides these services in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, including the communities of Winnipeg, Selkirk, Portage la Prairie, Morden/Winkler, The Pas, Brandon, Arborg, West St. Paul, Regina, and Moose Jaw.

WHO WE SUPPORT
The participants of our programs are often deeply impacted by their circumstances which can become barriers to living safely and independently in the community. Trauma, homelessness, poverty, addictions, discrimination, sexual exploitation, societal stigmas, mental health crises, and lack of access to resources are some of the barriers our participants face every day.

BOARD OF DIRECTOR POSITION SUMMARY
Turning Leaf Community Support Services Inc. is actively seeking Board of Directors Members. This is an exciting opportunity to for someone to utilize their skills and experience to help take the organization to the next level!
SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish and implement the mission, vision, and purpose of Turning Leaf.
- Commit to the work of Turning Leaf.
- Keep informed about community issues relevant to the mission, vision, and purpose of Turning Leaf.
- Help the Board monitor and support the performance of Turning Leaf in relation to its mission, vision, and purpose.
- Participate in the review of Turning Leaf’s mission and in the development of a strategic plan.
- Ensure that Turning Leaf is in compliance with its legal obligations.
- Understand and scrutinize all financial matters including participating in the approval of the annual budget and monitoring the financial performance in relation to it.
- Attend and participate in board meetings, committee meetings and the annual general meeting.
- Thoroughly review all meeting materials, prepare for and participate in the discussions and deliberations of the board.
- Establish a strong working relationship with board colleagues that contributes to consensus.
- Listen to others’ views, advocate your own, identify common interests, alternatives, and be open to compromise.
- Support decisions of the Board and speak as one voice.
- Keep board discussions confidential.
- Be aware of and abstain from any conflict of interest.
- Assist in the establishment, review, and monitoring of Turning Leaf’s policies.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of Turning Leaf’s services.
- Identify prospective board members and possibly help recruit them.
- Participate in an annual board self-evaluation.
- Work to enhance the public image of Turning Leaf
- Foster a positive working relationship with the Chief Executive Officer and work with Board colleagues to support, guide, direct and evaluate the Chief Executive Officer
