TVO Media Education Group (TVO) is devoted to inspiring learning that changes lives and enriches communities. We are an internationally recognized digital learning organization that strives to engage, inform, and educate Ontarians of all ages.

We are an agency of the Ontario Ministry of Education and a registered charity that contributes to learning, civic engagement, and public service media across Ontario. We provide free, trusted, and accessible educational content that can support Ontarians of all ages, regardless of background, location, or circumstance. To fulfill our mandate, TVO delivers curriculum-connected resources through TVO Learn and TVOkids, offers Ontario’s largest online high school through TVO ILC, and produces journalism, documentaries, current affairs programming, and podcasts with TVO Today that help Ontarians understand the issues shaping their communities.

What we’re looking for

As part of the TVO ILC team – the largest online secondary school in Ontario – the Guidance Counsellor will support students, implement curriculum practices relevant to guidance and career education, and assess and evaluate learning opportunities and experiences using a variety of data collection methods.

How you will make an impact

Liaise with students, teachers, and parents, and work collaboratively with colleagues and various groups and committees, on matters regarding guidance services
Provide support in the area of diploma requirements, diploma assessments and Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR)
Provide support in the administration of the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) testing for eligible students
Provide support to Administrative Services colleagues on student issues/concerns
Develop and implement accommodation plans as required

What you will bring to TVO

Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers with Guidance (Specialist) and Intermediate/Senior teacher qualifications
Knowledge of the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum, district school board policies and guidelines, and legal and ethical issues related to guidance and career education
Knowledge of all policy documents, course selection, and course sequencing
Experience developing, using, and accommodating expectations based on the needs of all students, including knowledge of special education, accommodation, documentation, and legislation
Proven leadership in developing and delivering services that promote inclusion, participation, creativity, and empowerment to build a vibrant community where safety and wellbeing are shared values
Experience with prior learning assignments; familiar with Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR) and Mature PLAR
Solutions-driven with excellent judgement and problem-solving abilities
Excellent administrative and organizational skills, and a solid understanding of the past and new curricula and educational options relating to the distance learner
Excellent people skills with a proven ability to work in a team environment
Comfortable working with technology including Student Records Systems and various software applications
Experience working with Indigenous students and understanding of Indigenous culture and ways of learning are assets.
