Tyndale is a Christian university that prepares leaders for work in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors, ministry and the global mission of the church. Tyndale offers fully accredited programs in a wide range of disciplines at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Currently, there are over 1,600 students representing over 90 denominations and 60 ethnic backgrounds and over 13,000 alumni. Founded in 1894, Tyndale is located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

POSITION PURPOSE

Manager, Learning Services oversees all academic resources provided by the Centre for Academic Excellence (the Centre). The Manager, Learning Services provides leadership to the Centre’s team of writing consultants, training and guiding them on how to work with students at all skill levels. This position also develops strategies to increase Tyndale’s resources in student academic writing and skill development, and facilitates community-wide initiatives in this area, both online and in-person, and coordinates the development of micro-credentials offered by the Office of Student Development. They are also the institution’s primary resource concerning academic integrity and its enforcement within the institution. This individual will also work directly with students who require a heightened level of support.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Administration

Oversee daily operations of all writing support systems.
Develop and maintain online micro-credentials and oversee the co-curricular record offered by the Office of Student Development.
Explore and develop academic skill certificates for a non-degree seeking audience.
Update and grow resources for the Centre for Academic Excellence available to an in person and online audience.
Collaborate with faculty on writing and academic skill initiatives in their specific discipline.
Maintain and enhance the online Academic Integrity module.
Oversee and evaluate prospective students’ writing ability through the Reading & Writing Assessment (RWA).
Plan and facilitate writing seminars to the student community and prepare lectures for classes when invited.
Represent Tyndale at events and orientation sessions.
Advise Faculty on matters related to plagiarism and academic dishonesty.
Review and implement improvement strategies for academic dishonesty cases assigned by the Academic Standards Committee (ASC) and provide reports and recommendations to the ASC when needed.
Review all instances of Academic Integrity violations and uphold Academic Integrity standards for the Seminary in collaboration with the Academic Dean.
Contribute to policy creation pertaining to academic integrity, writing expectations, and the learning experience of students.
Serve as a member of institutional committees as assigned.
Implement institution-wide strategy on targeting writing deficiencies.
Collaborate with faculty to create study groups.

Supervision

Recruit, supervise, train, and evaluate, Writing Consultants.
Debrief writing consultations with student workers upon request.
Manage Learning Services budget.
Develop and enforce policies related to this service.

Student Services

Administer writing or academic support to students who have been referred by Faculty or Staff.
Oversee the coordination of services within the Office of Student Development as it pertains to micro-credentials, the co-curricular record, and cross-departmental events.
Support academic advising initiatives for at risk students.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

a) Education

Undergraduate degree in English, Communications, or related field of study.
Master’s degree in English, Education or related field, preferred.
Physical and/or mental health first aid certification, preferred.

b) Experience

3-5 years experience in teaching, postsecondary student support, or related field.
Experienced and skilled writer, knowledge in all areas of citation and interdisciplinary writing.
Supervisory experience, minimum of 2 years.
Experience working with students whose second language is English (ESL learners), preferred.
Understand learning styles and how to implement study strategies around them.
Expertise in grammar, style, mechanics and other elements of expository writing along with considerable pedagogical skill.
Specialized training in Artificial Intelligence, preferred.

c) Skills and Abilities

Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
Excellent organization and time management skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

e) Physical and Mental Demands

Moderate – high level of stress. May result from students responding to poor performance on an assignment, recommended or mandatory referrals.

Must be able to work with distractions and very frequent interruptions.
Noisy environment at times.

Salary Range: $50,000 to $54,600
