Original job description

Full-Stack Software Engineer Ultrassure | Toronto, Ontario | Hybrid: two days per week in the office About Ultrassure Ultrassure builds AI software for the insurance and reinsurance industry. Our platform helps underwriting teams turn complex submissions, contracts, endorsements, guidelines and claims documents into structured information and actionable insights. We are a seed-stage company with more than $10 billion in premium represented on the platform and customers across Canada, the US, the UK, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. We are hiring a Full-Stack Software Engineer to help build the next generation of the platform. The Role You will work across frontend, backend, infrastructure and applied AI, taking ownership from the customer problem through architecture, implementation and production. This role suits someone who enjoys building complete products, making practical technical decisions and seeing their work used by customers. Our core stack includes Next.js, TypeScript, Python, Django and AWS. This is a hybrid role requiring in-person attendance twice per week at our office at Bay & King in downtown Toronto. Candidates must be Canadian citizens. We do not provide immigration or work permit sponsorship. What You Will Do Build features end to end, from database models and APIs to intuitive user interfaces. Develop production AI workflows using OpenAI, Anthropic and other model providers. Build agents, tools, MCP integrations, structured outputs, retrieval systems and evaluations. Improve document parsing, clause extraction, data enrichment, comparison and workflow automation. Develop secure systems for authentication, role-based access, multitenancy and document processing. Improve performance and reliability through queues, caching and better infrastructure. Strengthen testing, observability, CI/CD and production security. Work closely with the team to translate customer workflows into useful software. Use Codex and other AI development tools effectively while maintaining strong engineering judgment. What We Are Looking For Strong software engineering fundamentals and the ability to work across the stack. Experience with TypeScript and React or Next.js, alongside Python and backend API development. Experience deploying and maintaining production applications in the cloud, ideally AWS. Practical experience building LLM applications beyond basic chatbot demos. Good product judgment and the ability to turn an ambiguous problem into a shipped feature. Ownership, initiative and attention to security, reliability and maintainability. Comfort working with messy documents and unstructured data. Strong communication and the ability to collaborate effectively in person and remotely. Ability to attend our downtown Toronto office twice per week. Canadian citizenship. Immigration and work permit sponsorship are not available. We care about what you can build and how you think. Exceptional new graduates and experienced engineers are both welcome to apply. Why Ultrassure Build software used by insurance and reinsurance teams. Work across the full product, including applied AI, infrastructure and customer-facing features. Take meaningful ownership and directly influence the product and technical direction. Join a small team where your work reaches customers quickly. Competitive compensation plus meaningful equity. Hybrid schedule with two days per week at our downtown Toronto office at Bay & King.
