About United Petroleum Transport
United Petroleum Transport Ltd. (UPT) is a Canadian transportation company specializing in the safe, efficient, and reliable transportation of bulk petroleum products. We are committed to maintaining high standards of safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence while delivering exceptional service to our customers.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, proactive, and highly organized Field Operations Supervisor to oversee and support our transportation operations across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial trucking, transportation logistics, or fleet operations, with experience coordinating drivers, equipment, and daily operational activities.
This is a hands-on, field-oriented supervisory role requiring regular travel between operational locations, including terminals, customer sites, maintenance facilities, and other company operating locations.
The successful candidate will work closely with our Dispatch, Safety, Maintenance, and Operations teams to ensure driver and equipment availability, maintain operational efficiency, resolve field issues, and support reliable, on-time fuel deliveries.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily field operations, ensuring drivers, equipment, and resources are effectively coordinated to meet operational requirements.
- Act as a primary point of contact for drivers, customers, vendors, and internal departments regarding operational matters.
- Coordinate with Dispatch to support daily driver assignments, shift planning, and efficient resource allocation.
- Prepare and maintain driver schedules, ensuring schedules are communicated to brokers and drivers at least two weeks in advance.
- Monitor driver availability, attendance, scheduling adherence, and operational performance.
- Coordinate trailer and equipment availability, including preventative maintenance, annual inspections, repairs, and equipment transfers.
- Work with external vendors to arrange emergency roadside repairs, towing, and other maintenance services.
- Liaise with Safety and Compliance teams to coordinate driver onboarding, terminal carding, road tests, and training requirements.
- Conduct regular field visits to terminals, customer locations, and other operational sites to monitor activities and address operational concerns.
- Monitor inventory levels, run-out reports, consumption trends, and delivery performance to proactively identify service risks and coordinate corrective actions.
- Support operational planning and resource adjustments to minimize service disruptions and prevent avoidable customer run-outs.
- Maintain accurate driver schedules, equipment records, and operational information within company systems.
- Prepare and distribute operational reports and communicate relevant updates to Operations and Safety Management.
- Identify opportunities to improve fleet utilization, scheduling efficiency, service reliability, and overall operational performance.
- Respond to urgent operational issues and provide field support as required, including outside regular business hours when necessary.
Qualifications & Experience
Mandatory Requirements:
- Previous experience in transportation operations, fleet management, dispatch, or a related supervisory or coordination role within the commercial trucking industry.
- Strong understanding of commercial trucking operations, driver scheduling, fleet coordination, and transportation logistics.
- A valid driver's licence (or provincial equivalent), with no more than three demerit points, no active licence suspensions, and no pending charges.
- Ability and willingness to perform frequent fieldwork and travel between operational locations throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
- Availability to respond to urgent operational matters, including occasional evenings, weekends, and on-call coverage as required.
Additional Qualifications:
- Experience in fuel transportation, petroleum distribution, bulk liquid transportation, or dangerous goods transportation is strongly preferred.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively coordinate drivers, vendors, and operational teams.
- Working knowledge of commercial transportation regulations, including applicable provincial and federal safety requirements.
- Familiarity with commercial vehicle maintenance, annual inspections, and preventative maintenance programs.
- Experience using transportation management systems (TMS), dispatch software, fleet management platforms, or driver scheduling systems.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to resolve operational issues professionally and efficiently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of operational challenges, and make sound decisions under pressure.
What We Offer
- Competitive annual salary of CA70,000–CA80,000, based on qualifications and experience.
- Opportunity to take an active role in managing and improving field operations within a growing transportation company.
- Collaborative work environment with direct involvement in operational planning and decision-making.
- Opportunities for professional growth and development.
