The Department of Plant Science comprises 22 professors studying various fields related to biology, agroecology, and crop production. They contribute to the training of more than 400 undergraduate students in agronomy and supervise about 100 graduate students in plant biology and agroecology.
The Department of Plant Science invites applications for the position in the above-mentioned area.
Job Description
In collaboration with professors from the Department of Plant Science, the selected candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in French* (B.Sc. degree in agronomy, M.Sc. and Ph.D. in plant biology, graduate microprogram and M.Sc. in agroecology). In addition, the selected candidate will supervise graduate students in the field of agroecology. The candidate must be strongly committed to developing high-quality teaching and research activities and will be expected to assume a fair share of the collective responsibility among the professors of the Department of Plant Science.
Selection criterias
- Hold a Ph. D. in a field related to agroecology;
- Possess the necessary skills and experience to develop and offer teaching in French* across all three degree levels (B.Sc. in agronomy, M.Sc. and Ph.D. in plant biology, graduate microprogram and M.Sc. in agroecology) in the field of agroecology, specifically courses such as Introduction à l’agroécologie (Introduction to agroecology), Fondements et principes de l’agroécologie (Foundations and principles of agroecology), and Projet d’intervention en agroécologie (Agroecology intervention project), as well as other advanced graduate-level courses within their area of expertise. Ability to teach courses in agroforestry will be considered an asset;
- Demonstrate the ability to design and implement an innovative research program in agroecology, with particular emphasis on the social and territorial dimensions of the agroecological transition and their interactions with its agronomic and ecological dimensions. Interdisciplinary approaches considering the links between agronomy, societies, territories, and food systems will be favored. Research experience in agroforestry will be considered an added value;
- Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and a genuine interest in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Prior university-level teaching experience is an asset.
- Possess an excellent understanding of the agronomic, ecological, socioeconomic, and political foundations and dimensions of agroecology, as well as the key issues and challenges associated with the agroecological transition;
- Being a member of the Ordre des agronomes du Québec or eligible to become one is an asset.
