Job Description
Université Laval invites applications for a tenure-track or tenure professor position appointed to the Department of Physics, Engineering Physics and Optics. The successful candidate will
- Establish and lead an independent, original, and high-quality research program in astrophysics, encompassing observational and/or theoretical investigations (including numerical simulations) across a broad range of physical scales, wavelength regimes, and instrumental approaches. While outstanding candidates from all areas of astrophysics are encouraged to apply, preference will be given to candidates whose research focuses on extragalactic astrophysics, including the formation, evolution, structure, dynamics, and stellar populations of nearby and distant galaxies, the interstellar medium and star formation, active galaxies, galaxy clusters, and cosmology. Expertise in the analysis of detailed astrophysical systems and/or large samples (big data), including the application of machine Learning and artificial intelligence techniques, will be considered an asset.
- Independently pursue and lead a research program that enables the acquisition of external research funding and participation in major national and international research initiatives (e.g., SKA, ALMA, JWST, ELT).
- Participate, according to areas of expertise, in the research activities of

- Quebec Astrophysics Research Centre
- Institute for Intelligence and Data Science
- Big Data Research Centre
- Supervise Master and Doctoral students.
- Teach physics and astrophysics classes in French to the undergraduate and graduate levels (Université Laval offers various opportunities for learning and improving French language skills during the first three years of employment).
- Participate in the pedagogical and administrative activities of the department and faculty.
- Participate in external university-related activities that contribute to the visibility and reputation of the department, the faculty, and the university.

Selection criterias
- Hold a doctoral degree in physics, astrophysics, or a discipline relevant to the research field targeted by this position.
- Relevance of scientific training and experience to the identified field.
- Demonstrated ability or potential to conduct university-level research and to develop an autonomous, original, and high-quality research program in the targeted field.
- Demonstrated ability or potential for university teaching at all three academic cycles, supervision of graduate students, and commitment to pedagogical innovation.
- Demonstrated commitment or potential for service to the community.
- Ability to communicate and integrate within the institution’s French-speaking environment (within a reasonable timeframe).
- Strong interest in collaborative work; openness to interdisciplinary research.
