Position Summary:
The successful candidates will support Laboratory Medicine by performing ECG, Venipuncture on inpatients/outpatients as well as Specimen Management duties.

With over 30 million tests per year and 1,300 outpatients served daily, we are at the forefront of pathology and clinical testing. The division of Specimen Management specializes in specimen procurement and processing for all UHN sites. As a valued member of Team LMP, you will play a key role in providing high quality preanalytical services to clinical, laboratory, and research professionals.

Duties:

Perform ECG on inpatient and outpatients
Perform venipuncture on inpatients and outpatients
Manipulate and process specimens as per laboratory protocols
Operate laboratory equipment
Organize and arrange transport of specimens
Practice and provide patient centered care
Use hospital information systems to access and document procedures
Participates in training of staff
Maintain safe working environment and comply with IPAC

Qualifications

Completion of Grade 12, or recognized equivalent
Graduate of a post-secondary Laboratory Technician or Laboratory Assistant certificate program, or recognized equivalent
MLPAO or CSMLS license, preferred
Minimum one (1) year related work experience in a laboratory setting
Minimum one (1) year recent work experience in, venipuncture, ECG and specimen management
Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory equipment maintenance and operation
Effective organizational, time management skills and prioritization skills
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Understanding of appropriate behaviour required working successfully in a diverse work group.
Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Procedures in a laboratory
Computer literate in Windows based applications
Ability to work effectively as a team member
Ability to work accurately under stressful conditions
