Reports to: Manager
Wage Range: $29.28 - $30.10  per hour (start rate is non-negotiable)
Hours: Up to 22.50 hours per week
Shifts: 12-hour shifts –Days 0730-1930; Nights 1930-0730; Weekends; Holidays
Status: Permanent Part-Time

Position Summary

As a member of the Toronto Western Emergency Department & Seniors Emergency Medicine Centre (SEMC), the Ward Clerk will be assigned to work in all areas of the Emergency Department, including SEMC, in accordance with relevant legislation/standards. The Ward Clerk is a member of the inter-professional care team and is expected to maintain a collaborative and active working relationship with team members in the provision of patient care.

Duties

Performing reception responsibilities
Providing clerical support
Organizing electronic and paper information filing system
Performing patient administration functions including scheduling and coordinating appointments meetings/events, maintaining written and/or electronic calendar/schedule etc/
Coordinating unit administrative functions
Ensuring the efficient operation of the unit, within scope of authority
Performing other duties consistent with the job classification as required.

Qualifications

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
Completion of a recognized post-secondary office administration program at the certificate level or equivalent preferred
Minimum one (1) year recent related clerical experience
Experience working in a health care environment an asset
Knowledge of medical terminology an asset
General knowledge of office practices, processes, and procedures
Good data entry/keyboarding skills
Excellent organizational, time management and prioritization skills
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Good problem-solving skills
Ability to produce high quality work in accordance with Hospital standards
Ability to work effectively and safely when dealing with stressful situations
Knowledge of Emergency Assistance Codes
Completion of a recognized post- secondary secretarial arts program at the certificate level or equivalent preferred
Experience working in a Microsoft Office software environment
Experience working in a health care environment preferred
Knowledge of Medical Terminology preferred
Previous on-the-job word processing and spreadsheet experience required; experience working in an Microsoft Office software environment an asset
Very good interpersonal and customer service skills
Good verbal and written communication skills
