Job Description

Union: CUPE Clerical Bargaining Unit

Site: Toronto General Hospital
Department: Vascular/Cardiovascular Inpatient Unit
Reports to: Nurse Manager
Wage range: $20.83 - $26.04 per hour
Hours: 20 Hours per Week
Shifts: 4 Hour, Evenings (17:30-21:30), Mon-Fri
Status: Temporary Part Time (6 Months)
Closing Date: October 1, 2026

Duties

Performing reception responsibilities
Providing clerical support
Organizing and maintaining patient charts, electronic and paper information filing systems
Performing patient administration functions including scheduling and coordinating appointments/meetings/events
Maintaining written and/or electronic calendar/schedules, etc.
Coordinating unit administrative functions
Ensuring the efficient operation of the unit, within the scope of authority
Performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as required
Good attendance is required

Qualifications

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
Minimum one (1) year recent related clerical experience
General knowledge of office practices, processes, and procedures
Previous on-the-job computer word processing/spreadsheet experience
Good data entry/keyboarding skills
Excellent organizational, time management and prioritization skills
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Good problem-solving skills
Ability to produce high quality work in accordance with Hospital standards
Ability to work effectively and safely when dealing with stressful situations
Knowledge of Emergency Assistance Codes
Completion of a recognized post- secondary secretarial arts program at the certificate level or equivalent preferred
Experience working in a Microsoft Office software environment
Experience working in a health care environment preferred
Knowledge of Medical Terminology preferred
Must have flexible scheduling availability

Responsibilities

Provide reception and clerical support for the vascular/cardiovascular inpatient unit, including organizing patient charts and maintaining electronic and paper filing systems. Schedule and coordinate appointments and unit activities, maintain calendars, and support efficient unit operations.

Requirements

Requires Grade 12 or equivalent and at least one year of recent related clerical experience, along with office procedure knowledge, computer skills, and strong organizational, communication, customer service, and problem-solving abilities. A post-secondary secretarial arts certificate or equivalent is preferred; healthcare experience, Microsoft Office experience, and medical terminology knowledge are also preferred.
