Electrical Engineer (Robotics)
ReCAST Robotics
Electrical Engineer (Robotics)
Location: San Carlos, United States (Onsite)
ReCAST Robotics is building the self-serve platform that lets frontline workers capture tacit knowledge and deploy it onto robots. Our mission is to close the operationalization gap in robotics: making expert human skill transferable, repeatable, and scalable across industrial environments. We work with leading manufacturers and logistics operators where the stakes of getting robotic deployment right are highest.
Role Overview
As an Electrical Engineer at ReCAST Robotics, you will own electrical system design decisions - evaluating architectural trade-offs, selecting components and sensor/actuator interfaces, and taking circuits from schematic through PCB layout, board bring-up, debugging, and full validation. You will be expected to justify your design choices and collaborate closely with mechanical and firmware engineers across the full hardware development lifecycle.
Working alongside experienced hardware, firmware, and robotics control, perception, and learning engineers, you will design, prototype, integrate, and validate custom electronics that enable reliable operation in demanding real-world environments.
This role is highly hands-on and emphasizes practical engineering. You will spend significant time in the lab bringing up new printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), integrating sensors and actuators, debugging electrical systems, and supporting the transition from prototype hardware to production-ready robotic platforms. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure our electrical systems seamlessly integrate with mechanical designs, embedded software, and robot learning infrastructure.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer who enjoys building hardware, solving challenging debugging problems, and working across the full hardware development lifecycle in a fast-moving robotics startup.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Ownership & Architecture: Own electrical system design decisions - evaluate architectural trade-offs, select components and sensor/actuator interfaces, and take circuits from schematic through PCB development, bring-up, and validation. Justify design choices clearly to mechanical and firmware collaborators.
- Board Bring-up & Debugging: Lead the initial lab bench testing, measurement, and validation of newly manufactured custom PCBAs.
- PCB Design: Design schematics, select components, and oversee printed circuit board layout using industry EDA software. Drive layout decisions with a system-level understanding of power distribution, signal integrity, and interface requirements.
- Sensor & Actuator Integration: Integrate, calibrate, and validate brushless DC (BLDC) motors, motor controllers, IMUs, tactile sensors, and optical sensors into the robotic electrical architecture.
- Harnessing & Routing: Design, build, and document reliable custom internal wiring harnesses, ensuring proper grounding, strain relief, and shielding.
- Validation Testing: Create detailed test procedures and specialized hardware test fixtures to validate power distribution grids, DC-DC converter stability, and thermal loads.
- Cross-Functional Debugging: Work with firmware and mechanical teams to isolate low-level system faults, resolve signal integrity issues, and mitigate EMI/EMC noise.
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
- Experience: At least 2 years of hands-on electrical hardware design experience through industry roles, internships, or applied research, including circuit design, PCB development or layout oversight, board bring-up, and bench debugging.
- Demonstrated ability to own design decisions, evaluate architectural trade-offs, validate designs through measurements, and collaborate with mechanical and firmware engineers.
- Lab Equipment Literacy: High comfort level operating diagnostic electronics tools, including digital oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, bench power supplies, and digital multimeters (DMMs).
- Communication Protocols: Practical familiarity with reading and troubleshooting basic embedded protocols such as I²C, SPI, UART, and CAN bus.
- Hands-on Skills: Strong physical dexterity with electronics lab tools, particularly fine-pitch soldering, prototyping, and assembly reworking.
- Experience across at least two distinct engineering environments is strongly preferred.
- Experience with major PCB layout design tools such as Altium Designer, KiCad, or Cadence.
- Basic ability to read or modify bring-up and test software written in C/C++ or script-based automated testing frameworks in Python.
- Foundational understanding of power electronics design, switching regulators, or lithium battery management systems (BMS).
- Join the founding engineering team and help shape the electrical architecture of next-generation robotic systems.
- Work on cutting-edge manipulation robots that combine hardware, AI, teleoperation, and robot learning.
- Collaborate closely with world-class robotics, AI, and hardware engineers in a highly interdisciplinary environment.
- Build products that will be deployed with leading manufacturers and logistics companies from day one.
- Competitive compensation, meaningful founding-stage equity, and the opportunity to have a lasting impact on the future of Physical AI.
