The Department of Chemistry at the University of Alberta (www.ualberta.ca/chemistry) invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the field of Environmental or Analytical Chemistry, with a strong emphasis on developing and applying new and improved analytical technologies to environmental challenges. The targeted starting date is July 1, 2027.

The Department has vibrant research programs encompassing most areas of modern chemistry, including materials and nanoscience, catalysis, analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, spectroscopy, synthesis and medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, computational chemistry, and instrumentation and analysis. It offers an outstanding research environment, with access to excellent support facilities.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry (or related discipline).
  • Successful candidates must demonstrate potential to develop an innovative and robust research program that is externally funded, to engage in relevant national and international research networks, and to provide high-calibre teaching and mentorship at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Research potential will be evidenced by a strong record of publications and presentations, a successful research funding history (in the case of applicants who already hold a tenure-track position), a summary of planned research projects, and appropriately supportive and detailed letters of reference.
  • Teaching and supervisory potential will be evidenced by previous teaching experiences, letters of reference, and a statement of teaching philosophy.
  • Successful candidates must also demonstrate how they will contribute to increasing the diversification of ideas within the Department through a statement about access, community and belonging (ACB). In their ACB statement, candidates should describe how they plan to incorporate ACB into their teaching, research, mentoring, and service. The Faculty of Science has developed ACB and Indigenous strategic plans; the Department of Chemistry supports these ACB initiatives.
  • A research focus that directly complements current department expertise and aligns with shared faculty interests is considered a strong asset.
