The
Information Technologies is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term
ERP System Administrator for approximately 24 months.
ERP Systems & Services supports the technical infrastructure for the University of Calgary's PeopleSoft enterprise resource planning systems, including Campus Solutions, Finance, Human Capital Management, Enterprise Learning Management, Interaction Hub, and related database and middleware services. This position reports to the PeopleSoft Technical Application Architect and has no direct reports.
The position is responsible for technical administration activities across PeopleSoft and its middleware components and works collaboratively with Technical Application Specialists, database administrators, application architects, developers, business analysts, security teams, infrastructure teams, and external vendors. The work directly affects the reliability, security, recoverability, and timely delivery of ERP services used across the University.
Following onboarding, the incumbent works independently within established technical standards, procedures, and change controls. The role performs system administration, monitoring, troubleshooting, patching, code migrations, performance testing, and related support activities across development, test, and production environments, escalating complex or high-risk issues as required.
The position normally works 35 hours per week. Due to operational requirements, work outside regular hours is periodically required for releases, patching, maintenance, recovery activities, upgrades, and critical incident response. The work is deadline-driven and may involve periods of increased activity during project milestones, planned maintenance, release windows, or system outages.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
PeopleSoft Systems and Environment Administration
- Assists with monitoring PeopleSoft application servers, web servers, process schedulers, and middleware software such as WebLogic, Tuxedo, Integration Broker, search, and supporting services; performs controlled starts, stops, cache management, health checks, and configuration validation.
- Executes established environment build, refresh, patch, and post-change validation procedures across development, test, and production-support environments.
- Maintains PUM, DMO, development, and test environments using approved procedures and coordinates readiness with developers, analysts, and senior technical staff.
- Identifies recurring operational issues and recommends practical improvements to procedures, scripts, monitoring, and environment-management practices.
Change Management, Migration and Release Support
- Executes code and configuration migrations through Phire Architect, verifies results, maintains deployment records, supports approved Phire workflow configuration and documentation, and resolves typical migration issues.
- Coordinates approved technical changes with developers, analysts, infrastructure teams, and senior technical staff to support timely and controlled releases.
- Performs documented Change Assistant and server-side activities in support of PeopleSoft patches, updates, and security fixes, including evidence collection and post-change checks.
- Supports release and cutover activities outside regular hours when required and escalates deviations from approved plans.
Monitoring, Testing and Incident Support
- Reviews system alerts, logs, the ERP team's ServiceNow queue, and related service records; triages issues and completes assigned incidents and requests within established priorities.
- Executes standard smoke, connectivity, batch, integration, and performance test suites; compares results with established baselines and documents exceptions.
- Collects logs, configuration data, and reproduction evidence for developers and vendor service requests and tracks assigned follow-up actions.
- Provides technical evidence and status information for patching, vulnerability remediation, recovery, and operational reporting.
Documentation, Automation and Team Support
- Maintains accurate runbooks, inventories, configuration records, support guides, checklists, and operational evidence.
- Uses and maintains approved scripts and automation, validates their results, and recommends changes that improve consistency or reduce manual effort.
- Explains established procedures and shares operational knowledge with team members and stakeholders.
- Supports ERP sustainment and project work as an assigned technical resource with limited guidance.
Special Projects and Professional Development
- Assists with special ERP and IT projects assigned by management, including upgrades, automation, and patching.
- Participates in cross-training sessions with senior team members on advanced system administration topics such as PeopleSoft and middleware installations, upgrades, and patching to support future project work.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Diploma or bachelor degree in computer science, information systems, or a related technical discipline, and three to five years of related experience supporting enterprise applications, middleware platforms, system administration, or ERP environments. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
- Experience administering Linux-based systems, virtualized infrastructure, and enterprise application environments.
- Working knowledge of enterprise application architecture, web and application server concepts, deployment processes, and system administration practices.
- Experience with scripting or automation using shell scripts, Perl, PowerShell, Python, or comparable tools.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of relational databases, SQL, querying databases, and running scripts, preferably in an Oracle database environment.
- Experience applying established procedures to administer, monitor, patch, validate, or troubleshoot enterprise systems.
- Experience analyzing and resolving moderately complex technical issues using documented procedures, available evidence, and established technical option.
- Experience working with ITSM queues, incident management, service expectations, and accurate work record.
- Knowledge of system integrity, information security, access controls, vulnerability remediation, and change management practice.
- Ability to organize and complete technical work with limited guidance, manage competing priorities, maintain accurate records, and escalate risks appropriately.
- Ability to explain technical information, document procedures clearly, and work collaboratively with technical and functional stakeholders.
- Assets
- Experience with PeopleSoft architecture, PeopleTools, WebLogic, Tuxedo, Process Scheduler, Integration Broker, PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM), or Change Assistant.
- Experience with Phire Architect, ServiceNow, LoadRunner, JMeter, or comparable change, service-management, and testing tools.
- Familiarity with Elasticsearch or OpenSearch administration.
- Experience supporting enterprise applications in a post-secondary, public-sector, or other complex organization.
