Job Title: Technical Expert, Engineering – Flight Control Laws Design & Development

Location: Dorval, Quebec, Canada

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Flight Control Laws Design and Development Engineer to support the design, development, verification, and validation of flight control laws for Fly-By-Wire (FBW) aircraft.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in aircraft flight dynamics, control systems engineering, aerodynamics, and flight control law development. Strong proficiency in MATLAB, Simulink, and C++ is essential, along with an understanding of aircraft stability, handling qualities, and aviation certification standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and enhance new and existing flight control laws for Fly-By-Wire (FBW) aircraft.
  • Develop and improve flight control assessment tools using MATLAB and C++.
  • Support flight control laws, autopilot, and navigation system development for R&D projects.
  • Develop and maintain system and flight control law requirements.
  • Perform requirements verification and validation (V&V) for new and updated flight control laws.
  • Design pilot-in-the-loop control laws based on aircraft handling qualities, flight performance, structural envelope protection, and aircraft-level requirements.
  • Evaluate flight control laws and Fly-By-Wire system performance, stability, and failure conditions.
  • Conduct analytical assessments, desktop simulations, pilot-in-the-loop simulator testing, and flight test data analysis.
  • Ensure flight control law development and verification comply with DO-178B and SAE ARP4754 standards.
  • Support integration of flight control laws into test rigs and supplier hardware platforms.

Required Qualifications & Technical Skills:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering. PhD is preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience developing flight control laws for Fly-By-Wire (FBW) aircraft.
  • Strong understanding of aircraft flight dynamics, aerodynamics, and aircraft stability.
  • Expertise in classical and modern control system design techniques for SISO and MIMO systems.
  • Knowledge of advanced control law design techniques and methodologies.
  • Experience evaluating control laws using linear and nonlinear analysis techniques.
  • Understanding of aircraft handling qualities and pilot-in-the-loop control systems.
  • Strong proficiency in MATLAB and Simulink for aircraft modeling, simulation, and control law development.
  • Programming experience with MATLAB scripting and C++.
  • Knowledge of DO-178B, SAE ARP4754, system requirements verification, validation, and aerospace software certification.
  • Understanding of state estimation techniques and Kalman filtering.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken French and English.

Preferred Skills:

  • PhD in Aerospace Engineering.
  • Experience with flight control system integration and testing.
  • Experience working with flight control hardware and test platforms.
  • Exposure to autopilot and aircraft navigation system development.
