Job Title: Lead Online Assistant Editor / Finishing Lead

Location: Urban Post Productions (On-site)

Department: Picture Operations

Reports To: Picture Operations Manager

Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Lead Online Assistant Editor / Finishing Lead to join our picture operations team in Toronto. In this senior hands-on technical lead role, you will take ownership of our picture finishing and deliverables pipeline - bridging offline editorial, senior colourists, online editors, and client delivery.

You will guide daily technical operations, perform complex conforms, oversee technical quality control (QC), and ensure high-profile episodic series and feature films meet stringent network and streaming specifications on schedule.

Key Responsibilities

  • Finishing & Conforms: Prepare, conform, and relink project timelines in Avid Media Composer and DaVinci Resolve for Online Editors and Senior Colourists. Perform complex conforms and frame-rate conversions during peak volume periods.
  • Deliverables & Mastering: Oversee end-to-end creation of broadcast and theatrical master assets (IMF packages, DCP, ProRes) ensuring compliance with strict network and streaming specs (Netflix, Apple TV+, Amazon Prime).
  • Technical Quality Control (QA/QC): Lead internal technical QC on finished picture assets, audio laybacks, and master files prior to client release; resolve escalated QC rejections or technical anomalies.
  • Operational Lead & Coordination: Direct daily task priorities and workflow handoffs for assistant editors and technical operators across daytime and evening shifts.
  • Client & Creative Collaboration: Act as primary technical contact for external Post Supervisors, Studio Executives, and internal creative teams; host and run client review screenings as needed.
  • Pipeline & Automation: Help document standardized I/O workflows, manage server media organization, LTO archiving, and leverage command-line tools or scripting (Python/Bash) to streamline repetitive transcoding tasks.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: 4+ years of post-production experience in a picture finishing facility, with proven experience in a senior assistant or lead technician role.
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced, hands-on knowledge of DaVinci Resolve, Avid Media Composer, Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, Media Encoder), and Colorfront Transkoder.
  • Technical Standards: Solid background in IMF packaging, DCP authoring, Dolby Vision/HDR10, colour spaces (Rec.709, P3-D65, Rec.2020, ACES), multi-channel audio configurations, and embedding of closed captions.
  • Leadership & Communication: Strong capability to direct daily shift handoffs, guide junior technical staff, and maintain calm, professional client communication under tight studio deadlines.
  • Availability: Ability to work on-site at our Toronto facility across daytime or evening shifts as project schedules require.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of high-performance shared storage systems (e.g., StorNext, TigerStore, Nexis).
  • Direct experience with major streaming platform delivery portals and automated QC tools.
  • Basic familiarity with command-line scripting (Python, Bash) or workflow automation toolsets.

What We Offer

  • High-Profile Projects: Direct hands-on experience with major series and feature films.
  • Career Growth: Exposure to top-tier finishing tools with a path toward Senior Online Editor, Colourist, or Operations Management.
  • Competitive Compensation: Market-leading salary, comprehensive benefits package, and paid time off.
