Job Description
- Client is seeking two Senior Content Designers (UX Designer II) to join a well-established Enterprise Transformation team of 7–10 in downtown Toronto.
- The content designers will deliver content designs for multiple projects by creating, evaluating and modifying the language used on tools, apps, prototypes and websites; conducting ideation sessions; and developing concepts using design thinking methodologies.
- The role requires plain-language expertise, strong writing and editing skills, hands-on experience writing WCAG/accessibility-compliant content, and experience getting content through regulatory approvals.
- Content designers apply user-centered design methodologies, so content is accessible and grounded in customer needs, participate in all phases of the product development lifecycle, and collaborate closely with Experience Design Leads, Product Owners and engineers.
- One week of training is provided, and the team offers established leadership and strong learning opportunities. This is a one-year contract, hybrid with currently four days onsite at Toronto, ON.
Experience: 3–5 years, preferably in digital, conversation or content design.
Responsibilities
Content design & delivery
- Conceptualize, design, and execute future-state and near-term cross-channel content experiences.
- Create, evaluate, and modify the language used on tools, apps, prototypes, and websites.
- Write, edit, and proofread content to plain-language standards.
- Conduct ideation sessions, develop concepts, and innovate using design thinking methodologies.
- Apply user-centered design methodologies to ensure content is accessible and based on customer needs.
- Accessibility & compliance
- Write WCAG/accessibility-compliant content.
- Get content through regulatory approvals; manage content through legal/compliance review cycles.
- Ensure respective programs, policies and practices are well managed, meet business needs and comply with internal and external requirements.
Product lifecycle collaboration
- Participate in all phases of the product development lifecycle: product ideation and definition, user research, feature team scoping/planning, estimating effort, design, post-launch evaluation, and stakeholder communication.
- Collaborate with Experience Design Leads, Product Owners, and engineers to develop the best solution for customers.
- Take direction from the Content Design Lead; align with Product Owner, Tech Leads, Experience Design Lead and Control Partners.
Governance & expertise
- Exercise discretion in managing correspondence, information, and matters of confidentiality; escalate issues where appropriate.
- Act as a content design expert on cross-functional and enterprise initiatives; identify risk and provide guidance for complex situations.
- Conduct internal and external content projects, support development and delivery of presentations and communications to management or broader audiences.
- Solve complex problems requiring analysis of multiple variables and consultation with multiple stakeholders.
- Independently perform tasks from end to end.
Required Skillsets
- Plain language expertise: ~3 years rewriting complex content into clear, everyday language, with evidence of outcomes.
- Strong writing and editing: ~3 years writing, editing, and proofreading digital content to a high standard.
- WCAG / accessibility-compliant content: ~3 years writing content that meets WCAG; understands heading structure, alt text, descriptive links, and reading level.
- Regulatory approvals: ~3 years getting content approved by regulatory, legal or compliance partners.
- Content design delivery: creates, evaluates, and modifies language for tools, apps, prototypes, and websites.
- User-centered design: applies UCD methodologies so content is accessible and based on customer needs.
- Product development lifecycle participates from ideation and definition through post-launch evaluation and stakeholder communication.
- Design thinking: conducts ideation sessions and develops concepts; innovates with design thinking methodologies.
- Collaboration: works with Experience Design Leads, Product Owners, engineers, and Control Partners; takes direction from the Content Design Lead.
- Independent delivery: performs tasks end to end with discretion and sound judgment on confidential matters.
Preferred Skillsets
- FI (financial institution) experience.
- Public site (consumer-facing website) experience.
- Background in a design-related discipline (industrial design, user-centered design, visual design, design strategy, design management, human factors, psychology, human-computer interaction).
- Conversation design (chat, voice) or other cross-channel content experience.
Education: Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience.
