Job Title: Accountant

Job Type: Permanent, Hybrid, (4 days in-office), Calgary, AB

Job Salary: $80,000 - $89,750 / Year

Job Description

The Accountant supports the accurate and timely processing, reconciliation, and reporting of financial transactions. The position is responsible for revenue and deposit reconciliations, accounts payable and expense administration, month-end journal entries and account reconciliations, annual audit working papers, and monitoring departmental expenses against approved budgets. The position will report into the Finance Manager.

Key Responsibilities

-Reconcile revenue receipts from operational and customer management systems to payment processor deposits and bank transactions; investigate discrepancies, prepare supporting schedules, and post journal entries to the accounting system.

-Process refunds, account credits, sanctions-related payments, and other revenue transactions while ensuring accurate recording, reconciliation, and reporting of revenues.

-Administer the accounts payable function, including invoice review, coding, verification, system entry, vendor communications, recurring invoice tracking, and payment processing.

-Review employee, board, committee, and stakeholder expense claims for accuracy, policy compliance, and approval requirements; support corporate credit card administration and reporting.

-Monitor departmental spending against approved budgets, investigate variances, provide analysis, and respond to management inquiries regarding financial performance.

-Perform monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, credit cards, accounts payable, accounts receivable, deferred revenue, fixed assets, investments, accrued liabilities, intercompany/interfund balances, and other balance sheet accounts.

-Prepare reconciliation working papers and supporting documentation, resolving discrepancies and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers.

-Monitor and reconcile trust and restricted accounts, ensuring compliance with applicable conditions, policies, and reporting requirements.

-Support the annual budgeting and external audit processes by preparing financial analyses, reconciliations, schedules, and working papers, and liaising with auditors as required.

-Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, maintain financial systems and reporting processes, perform year-end reconciliations (including payroll-related balances), support special projects, and provide ongoing assistance to finance leadership.

Must Haves

-3+ Years of progressive accounting experience in full cycle accounting.

-Knowledge of accounting principles for not-for-profit organizations.

-Proficient in MS Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook.

-Basic understanding of ERP software, Sage Intacct experience is highly preferred.

-Detail orientated and problem-solving proficiency.

-Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.

-Strong ability to work independently, while maintaining excellent organizational skills to mange multiple tasks effectively.
