Summary:
Focus on lease accounting and liability accruals, including preparing account reconciliations, analyzing assigned G/L accounts, processing journal entries in accordance with IFRS and company guidelines, and supporting ad hoc projects to improve the accounting close process and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting.
About the Opportunity
- Carry out month-end close activities such as preparing reconciliations and analysis of assigned G/L accounts; monitoring monthly accruals of assigned G/L accounts; preparing journal entries as required.
- Assist quarterly reviews and annual audits by providing supporting schedules and resolving auditor enquiries.
- Maintain and update schedules tracking the lease portfolio and liability accruals, serving as the first point of contact for others in the business who need details in these areas.
- Directly coordinate with lease accounting software technical support in order to resolve issues and maintain an accurate subledger.
- Collaborate with other teams to get complete and accurate accrual adjustments; tracking which invoices have been received, already accrued, and which are pending.
- Investigate and resolve issues on a timely basis relating to financial data quality, unusual transactions, outstanding items and reconciling items, escalating to the reporting manager and other stakeholders as necessary.
- Participate in projects that improve the accounting close cycle and support business decision-making.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
About You
- Post-secondary education in Accounting
- Minimum 3 years’ industry experience in an accounting/finance role, reporting under IFRS or US GAAP
- CPA or pursuing designation is considered an asset
- Technologically proficient; quick learner of new systems and applications
- Knowledge of IFRS and audit standards
- Good understanding of balance sheet accounts and accrual accounting, including foreign exchange concepts (remeasurement and CTA)
- Excellent communication (written & oral) skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Good retention of information, proactive and effective note-taking
- Ability to work independently and proactively seek additional challenges
- Strong accountability, able to take ownership of work
- Ability to prioritize and effectively manage varying deadlines
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to think critically and recommend ideas for improvement on existing established policies and practices
