Original job description

Valdek Construction Inc.

Winnipeg, MB | Full-Time | In-Office | $25-$34/hour, based on experience

Are You Passionate About Creating Beautiful, Functional Spaces?

Do you enjoy helping homeowners turn their ideas into thoughtfully designed spaces? Do you thrive in a collaborative environment where you can contribute creatively while helping projects move from concept to completion?

We're looking for an Interior Designer who brings an eye for design, strong organizational skills, and a team-oriented mindset to our residential renovation projects. You'll help homeowners make informed design decisions while working closely with our construction team to bring their vision to life.

About Us

At Valdek Construction Inc., we specialize in transforming basements and kitchens into finished spaces that families can truly enjoy. Whether we're creating a home theatre, updating cabinetry, designing a rental suite, or renovating a kitchen, we believe every project should combine functionality, quality, and thoughtful design.

At Valdek Construction, we believe exceptional renovations begin with exceptional people. Everything we do is guided by our core values:

CANI (Constant and Never-Ending Improvement) We're always learning, improving, and looking for better ways to serve our clients and support one another.
Teamwork & Family We succeed together by supporting each other both professionally and personally.
Quality - Details Matter We believe the smallest details often create the biggest impact.
Communication We communicate openly and honestly so projects run smoothly and clients feel confident.
We Show Up We take ownership, follow through on our commitments, and consistently do what we say we'll do.

What You'll Do

Meet with clients to understand their vision, style preferences, functional needs, and project goals.
Develop design concepts, mood boards, and style guides that align with client expectations and budgets.
Create floor plans, layouts, and 3D renderings using tools such as Chief Architect, SketchUp, AutoCAD, Revit, or similar software.
Select and source finishes, cabinetry, countertops, flooring, fixtures, lighting, and other materials.
Prepare detailed drawings, elevations, and specifications to support estimating and construction.
Collaborate with estimators, project coordinators, and site leads to ensure designs are practical and executed as intended.
Conduct site visits to review progress, verify design details, and help resolve design-related challenges.
Present design recommendations and guide clients through selections and decisions with professionalism and clear communication.
Help keep project timelines, budgets, selections, and design documentation accurate and up to date.
Stay informed about design trends, materials, and residential construction practices.
Contribute ideas and feedback to improve internal systems, design workflows, and the client experience.

What You Bring

2+ years of experience in interior design, residential design, renovations, or construction coordination preferred.
Proficiency in design software such as Chief Architect, SketchUp, AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools.
A strong eye for space planning, layouts, finishes, materials, and design details.
An understanding of how design decisions affect construction, functionality, and project budgets.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with clients and teammates.
Good organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and adjust priorities as needed.
A positive, team-oriented attitude and a commitment to quality work.
Knowledge of residential construction methods, materials, and applicable building codes is an asset.
Post-secondary education in interior design, architecture, or construction is preferred.

Compensation And Benefits

$25-$34/hour, based on experience
Dental care
Extended health care
Flexible schedule

Eligibility for sick days and benefits, including dental and prescription drug coverage, after 90 days of employment.
A team of people and leaders who value collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement.
