The Opportunity
This position is an enterprise-wide scope, focused on enabling well governed, efficient, and continuously improving ways of working across Vale Base Metals. This role operates cross functionally, influencing all Vale Base Metals corporate functions and operations (Business Units) across the world such as Brazil, Canada, UK, Japan.
The role shapes the direction of the Performance management, Performance data analysis and Continuous Improvement mindset across the organization leading the discussions and implementation of the governance.
This is a permanent position.
Additionally, in this position you will be involved in:
Performance Management & Governance
- Establish governance ensuring performance & CI processes across the business following the VBM Operating Model
- Define consistent application of standards, practices, and controls across the business
- Enable standardization with flexibility to support diverse contexts across the business
- Design and govern business performance routines, operating models, and cost/value frameworks (incl. VBM) to support value‑based decisions
Performance Analysis & Advanced Analytics
- Lead KPIs analysis, constraints, and process performance using statistical methods (Theory of constraints, Value drive trees and stability analysis), benchmarking, and data from multiple sources to assess business performance.
- Generate insights, reports, and scenario/simulation analyses to guide priorities, improve processes, and address inefficiencies
- Lead problem-solving and improvement initiatives, providing actionable recommendations and challenging performance based on data and capacity.
- Understand statistical methods to analyze simulation data and validate models.
- Understand and incorporate artificial intelligence when necessary to enhance simulation accuracy and predictive capabilities.
- Provide guidance on Operations’ current performance based on capacities, external benchmarking, and business priorities considering long-term business value objectives.
Lean & Continuous Improvement
- Support the workstream related to the CI academy working integrated with peers and across the business to enhance the CI mindset.
- Embed a continuous improvement culture (Kaizen), ensuring learnings from retrospectives and incidents translate into action
- Promote automation, Lean thinking, and structured problem-solving to improve stability, reliability, capability and business value
Long Description
About You
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business, or related field
- Masters (preferred)
- Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (preferred)
Experience:
- 10+ years in operations, business corporate functions, processes governance, and/or continuous improvement within complex enterprises
Skills:
- Strong expertise in Lean, Continuous Improvement (CI), systems thinking, value stream optimization, flow efficiency, performance management, and advanced problem‑solving/root cause analysis
- Proficient in Business Analysis, Data Analytics, AI, Statistics, Simulation, and Operational Excellence frameworks, supported by relevant certifications (e.g., Lean Six Sigma belts)
- Advanced proficiency in data visualization tools, AI tools, and MS Office (especially Excel and PowerPoint), with solid knowledge of Agile, PMO, and project management practices
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, coaching, and facilitation skills; able to influence without authority and confidently challenge status quo thinking
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate Performance & CI insights into clear recommendations for senior leaders; cost-conscious with experience in business cases and benefits realization
- Excellent communication skills; additional languages (Portuguese, French, or Spanish) are an asset
