Original job description

About Vocantas

Vocantas builds intelligent communication and workforce management solutions that help organizations improve scheduling, shift planning, and employee engagement. Our products support customers in industries including healthcare and manufacturing, where reliability, security, and software quality are critical.

Vocantas is part of Fluent Software Group (a Valsoft Corporation operating group), a global acquirer and operator of vertical market software businesses. We focus on specialized industries where expertise creates lasting advantages.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Senior Software Developer to join a small development team working on large, multi-month projects across our platform. This is a hands-on senior individual contributor role where you’ll take ownership of technical delivery, work closely with other developers, and help turn requirements into software that is secure, testable, and built to last.

The role is full-stack, but leans heavily toward backend development. You’ll also have the opportunity to work on new products and AI capabilities being built directly into the Vocantas platform.

Location: Remote

The salary range for this role is $110,000–$125,000 per year. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, and location.

What You’ll Own

Build and deliver complex product work

Design and develop backend services using .NET 9 and C#, alongside frontend functionality using Vue.js or similar JavaScript frameworks.

Take technical ownership of significant pieces of larger projects, from design through development, testing, and delivery.

Break down work so it can be clearly shared across a small group of developers.

Build secure, reliable software for customers operating in industries where security and system reliability matter.

Technical design and architecture

Apply domain-driven design and microservices principles to real product problems.

Design and optimize relational databases, including Microsoft SQL.

Build and maintain REST APIs, asynchronous messaging, and distributed systems.

Identify technical blockers early and work with the team to find practical solutions.

Lead code reviews and maintain strong standards for quality, security, performance, and maintainability.

AI-assisted development and product innovation

Use AI development tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude as part of your day-to-day workflow.

Contribute to AI functionality being built directly into Vocantas products.

Help evaluate models and approaches based on factors such as performance, cost, reliability, and the problem being solved.

Work closely with Product, QA, and other developers to turn requirements into working software.

What We’re Looking For

5+ years of professional software development experience, with strong backend experience.

Strong hands-on experience with .NET and C#, including recent experience with modern .NET.

Experience with Vue.js and TypeScript; experience with Angular or another modern JavaScript framework is also relevant.

Practical experience applying domain-driven design and microservices architecture.

Experience working with Microsoft SQL or another relational database.

Experience building and integrating REST APIs.

Comfort working across the stack when needed.

Regular experience using AI-assisted development tools as part of your workflow.

Strong communication skills, including the ability to raise blockers early, ask questions when requirements are unclear, and work openly with teammates.

Ability to take ownership of your work while contributing effectively within a small development team.

Strongly Preferred

Experience building AI-powered functionality into a software product, including working with models or AI pipelines.

Experience with message brokers, asynchronous systems, or high-traffic distributed applications.

Experience working with secure software in healthcare, manufacturing, or another environment with strong security requirements.

Why Vocantas?

Stay hands-on and own meaningful work: You’ll spend your time solving technical problems and building software, while taking ownership of substantial pieces of multi-month projects. Your work is visible, and in a small team, your decisions have a real impact on the product.

Help shape how other developers grow: You’ll work closely with junior developers, sharing your experience, reviewing their work, and helping them think through technical problems. You’ll have the chance to influence how they approach development.

Work closely with the people building the product: With a lean development team, you’ll collaborate directly with Product, QA, and other developers. There are fewer layers, faster conversations, and a clear connection between the work you do and the outcome.

Build new technology into an established product: Vocantas is adding new products and AI capabilities, giving you the opportunity to work on both mature systems and new development.

Join Us

Join Vocantas and take ownership of meaningful technical work while helping build the next generation of our workforce communication and scheduling products.

We use AI-powered tools (including transcription and automated note-taking) during portions of our interview process to support a consistent and thorough candidate experience. Candidates who require alternative accommodation may request it at any stage of the recruitment process.

Fluent Software Group is committed to building diverse, equitable, and inclusive teams. We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences, and all qualified applicants will be considered without regard to race, gender, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, or any other protected characteristic.
