Original job description
Stringham Law has partnered with Van Dyke Marketing to manage this search. Questions can be directed to Susan Van Dyke at Susan@Vandyke.ca.
Company description
Stringam Law is a regional law firm serving individuals, families, businesses and communities across Western Canada, with 22 offices in Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. Our lawyers practice in a range of areas, including litigation, family law, business, real estate, agriculture, personal injury, and wills and estates.
Over the past several years, Stringam has grown significantly through mergers with community-based firms. Our ambition is to be the leading law firm in Western Canada, known for best-in-class systems, processes and client service. Our culture is collegial and entrepreneurial, guided by our core values of respect, integrity, teamwork, accountability, inclusiveness and loyalty.
Role description
Stringam Law is looking for a Marketing & Business Development Director to shape how the firm shows up in every community it serves. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will lead the firm's marketing and BD strategy across 22 offices in Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia, manage the marketing budget and show what it is achieving. You will also set the direction for business development, with a Manager and Coordinator bringing it to life day to day with our lawyers and practice groups.
Here's the fun part: we are rethinking how we plan, budget for and measure marketing and business development. You won't just run the function. You'll help shape it, with more scope and autonomy than a similar role in a much larger firm would usually support.
YOU'LL LOVE THIS IF...
- You would rather shape a function than inherit one in a binder.
- You genuinely enjoy working with high-performing professionals.
- You know a sponsorship that builds relationships from a logo lost among fifty others.
- You love taking an active marketing program and making it sharper, more targeted and easier to measure.
- You don't mind putting a few kilometres on the odometer across three provinces.
What you'll do
- Lead the firm's marketing, business development and brand strategy across all 22 offices.
- Plan targeted practice-area campaigns, and keep our digital, print, advertising, social, website and online reputation work pulling in the same direction.
- Lead our sponsorships, and give offices clear criteria so they can make smart local choices on their own.
- Oversee firm events, from referral appreciation nights and office grand openings to the annual retreat and awards program.
- Set the direction for business development, while your Manager and Coordinator deliver it day to day, including lawyer Success Plans and practice group planning.
- Manage the marketing budget, help rethink how it's spent, and show the CEO what it's achieving.
- Lead, coach and grow a marketing and business development team.
What you'll bring
- 5+ years leading marketing and business development, including integrated campaigns and brand initiatives.
- A strategic mind and an analytical streak. You like to know what's working, and why.
- Hands-on comfort with today's marketing tools and technology.
- A proven track record of leading, coaching and developing a team.
- Experience in a law firm, another professional services firm or the service sector. Legal industry experience is a big plus.
- The credibility to earn the trust of high-performing professionals, and the persuasion to bring them on board.
- Strong communication skills, whether you're presenting to the board or chatting one on one with a partner.
- A proven ability to manage a budget and report on results.
- A degree in marketing, communications, business or a related field is preferred.
