Original job description

Our Story & Purpose:

Vancity is a member-owned credit union built on the principles of inclusion and social justice. A relentless commitment to their values has helped them challenge the status quo and break down barriers since day one in 1946. They have bold commitments to make Vancity net-zero by 2040 across all mortgages and loans and are pursuing strategies on Indigenous banking and to improve the financial resilience of their members.

Vancity is the largest private sector Living Wage Employer in Canada and has been consistently recognized as one of the Top Employers in Canada. If you’re interested in joining their team of 2,300 diverse individuals and accessing competitive rewards and benefits, all while knowing you are part of a greater movement, then apply today!

Your Role in Supporting Our Members:

As a Commercial Business Account Manager, you’ll ensure our community business accounts receive advice and services tailored to meet their unique needs and business goals while making a positive impact on society, the environment, and the community.

This is a Permanent, Full-time role that will enjoy hybrid working arrangements which can be fulfilled primarily from the Vancity head office location and your Lower Mainland based home office. This role may require you to work on-site or in the community at least once a week.

How You'll Make an Impact:

Assessing, anticipating and responding to member needs to maximize the Commercial Business offer
Monitoring assigned portfolio, identifying credit risk and recommending course of action as appropriate
Authorizing credit applications within limits and recommend/submit applications above authorized limits in accordance with credit application guidelines
Providing accurate and complete information enabling the achievement of high quality Community Business credit applications
Sourcing, maximizing and leveraging community impact opportunities and achieve increasing volumes through cross-division collaboration
Monitoring, analyzing and reviewing new and existing Community Business Member accounts including loans (annual reviews), deposits and their supporting documentation to enable Community Business to effectively mitigate Money Laundering/Terrorist Financing risks
Sourcing, developing and maintaining new and existing relationships in order to achieve Community Business and Investment divisional goals

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

Undergraduate degree or university level diploma in Finance, Economics, Accounting or Business Administration.
A minimum of 3 years of experience in managing business accounts and portfolios
Experience in the financial institution or banking industry is an asset
Strong skills in developing and maintaining new and existing client relationship
Exposure to mission-aligned member relationships and social enterprise activity
Board-level involvement or governance experience
Research and analytical skills to evaluate trends and recommend actions

You’ll Thrive Here If You Are:

An Exceptional Communicator & Negotiator - using your communication and interpersonal skills, you provide the opportunity to learn how to provide expertise and advice, address challenges and issues, and represent across the organization. You will create that “wow” experience.
Problem Solver & Decision Maker - you diagnose challenges and issues; develop innovative business solutions; and assess risks and opportunities in Commercial Business.
Detail-oriented - you do your research and use those analytical skills to assess and recommend course of action on industry, political and economic trends. You can also identify risks and opportunities that may impact the business.

We value lived experience, so if you are interested in this role, we encourage you to apply even if you feel your skills don't perfectly align with those listed.

What You’ll Earn:

The base salary for this role begins at $85,000, plus incentive and commission-based pay. Base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity.

Why You’ll Love Working Here:

A career at Vancity is more than just a job, you’re joining a tradition of change-makers who are creating lasting change for our communities. Beyond base pay, we offer a comprehensive total rewards package to ensure our employees are empowered to thrive:

Living Wage Employer: We’re the largest private-sector Living Wage Employer in Canada and consistently ranked among Canada’s Top Employers
Customizable Benefits: Permanent employees receive flexible benefit packages that can be tailored annually to meet evolving needs
Generous Vacation: New employees start with 3-4 weeks of vacation per year, with additional days earned over time
Extra Stat Holidays: In addition to BC’s 11 statutory holidays, we offer 2 extra days, plus care days for personal or family illness
Immediate Health Coverage: Health and dental benefits begin on your hire date, with three levels of coverage to choose from
Defined Benefit Pension: Our retirement plan provides a guaranteed income for life, recognizing that retirement looks different for everyone
