Original job description
Our Story & Purpose:
We’re Vancity, a member-owned credit union built on the principles of inclusion and social justice. Since 1946, our relentless commitment to these values has helped us challenge the status quo and break down barriers. We’ve made bold commitments to become net-zero by 2040 across all our mortgages and loans, and we’re actively pursuing strategies in affordable housing, Indigenous banking and financial resilience for our members. These impact strategies are supported by Vancity’s Shared Success program, through which we return 30% of our net profits back to our members and to community. We disburse the majority of Shared Success through a number of funding programs.
As the largest private sector Living Wage Employer in Canada, we’re proud to be consistently recognized as one of the country’s Top Employers. If you’re ready to join our team of 2,300 diverse individuals, access competitive rewards and benefits, and be part of a greater movement - apply today!
Your Role in Supporting Our Members:
As a Community Investment Lead, you will support a portfolio made up of Vancity branches, lines of business, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Reconciliation team, and Office of the CEO to evaluate, deliver and activate grants that create meaningful community impact. You will work closely with branch managers, colleagues and potential grant recipients to turn community needs into fundable initiatives, build strong partnerships and strengthen Vancity’s presence in community. You will bring sound judgment, provide evidence-based recommendations, and use insights from grant partnerships to continuously strengthen Shared Success deployment.
This is a Full-time, Permanent role that is partially remote and will report directly to the Manager, Community Investment. While this position provides a hybrid work arrangement, you will be expected to be on-site for events and business demands. While the role is based in the Lower Mainland of BC, some travel outside the region will be required.
How You'll Make an Impact:
- Supporting branches and assigned lines of business to intake, review and strategically deploy Shared Success funding, activate community partnerships and advance business development opportunities
- Developing written guidance, training presentations, facilitated discussions and coaching opportunities that build grant-making and partnership activation capability
- Identifying potential community partners and initiatives that may develop into longer-term strategic relationships, assessing risks, trade-offs, scalability and alignment with organizational priorities
- Leading the application and implementation of partnership and funding processes across diverse stakeholder groups, tailoring approaches to local circumstances and coordinating decisions and dependencies
- Translating community needs into fundable initiatives and on-the-ground impact by partnering directly with branch managers, lines of business and community stakeholders
- Surfacing insights and learning to Impact Strategy and other stakeholders to strengthen strategy, portfolio development and continuous improvement across Shared Success deployment
- Contributing to program development and evaluation by synthesizing qualitative and quantitative evidence, identifying emerging patterns, risks and systemic gaps, and recommending scalable improvements
- Developing and sharing compelling impact stories for internal and external audiences while balancing reputational, privacy and stakeholder considerations
What You’ll Bring to the Team:
- Post-secondary diploma or degree, or equivalent in a related field.
- Demonstrated experience supporting community investment, grant-making, community partnerships, social impact programs or related work
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess complex opportunities, evaluate risks and trade-offs, and develop evidence-based recommendations
- Experience building collaborative relationships across diverse internal and external stakeholder groups and translating community needs into actionable initiatives
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience developing guidance, presentations, learning materials or facilitated discussions
- Ability to synthesize qualitative and quantitative information, identify patterns and systemic gaps, and translate insights into practical improvements
- Proven ability to independently coordinate complex initiatives, navigate ambiguity and resolve issues while escalating material matters appropriately
Extra Skills That Set You Apart:
- Experience working with community granting, funding programs or partnership portfolios
- Experience working in a financial institution and/or branch environment
- Experience designing or improving scalable processes, tools and implementation practices
- Experience developing impact-focused stories or communications for internal and external audiences
- Knowledge in the areas of affordable housing, financial inclusion, diversity, equity and inclusion, Reconciliation, climate action, and/or co-operatives and impact businesses.
You’ll Thrive Here If You Are:
- Community-focused - You build meaningful relationships and keep community needs and sustainable impact at the centre of your work.
- Strategic and analytical - You are comfortable navigating complexity, weighing risks and trade-offs, and turning evidence into thoughtful recommendations.
- Collaborative - You build trust across teams and with external partners, bringing people together to achieve shared outcomes.
- Adaptable and solutions-oriented - You exercise sound judgment in ambiguous situations and find practical ways forward when established processes or precedent may not exist.
We value lived experience, so if you are interested in this role, we encourage you to apply even if you feel your skills don't perfectly align with those listed.
