Your Role in Supporting Our Members:

As a Director, Treasury and Balance Sheet Risk, you will provide senior risk leadership and oversight across treasury and balance sheet risk, helping ensure financial risks are understood, effectively challenged, and managed within established risk parameters. You will bring an enterprise-wide perspective to areas such as liquidity, funding, interest rate and market risk, translating complex financial risk information into clear insights for senior stakeholders. You will partner across risk, treasury, finance, and related functions while maintaining effective independent risk oversight. This opportunity is suited to an experienced financial risk leader who combines deep technical expertise with sound judgment, strategic thinking, and the ability to influence at senior levels.

This is a Full-time, Permanent role based at our Vancity head office and will report directly to the Vice President, Risk Management - Finance & Treasury. While this position provides a hybrid work arrangement, you will be expected to be on-site for events and business demands.

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Leading independent oversight of treasury and balance sheet risks, including liquidity, funding, interest rate and market risk
  • Providing effective challenge of treasury risk strategies, exposures, limits, assumptions, models, and risk-management practices
  • Monitoring balance sheet risk exposures and emerging trends against established risk appetite, limits, and governance expectations
  • Assessing material financial risk issues and translating complex analysis into clear insights for senior leadership and governance forums
  • Partnering with Treasury, Finance, and other stakeholders to strengthen enterprise-wide identification, measurement, monitoring, and management of financial risks
  • Overseeing the development and ongoing enhancement of policies, frameworks, methodologies, metrics, and reporting for treasury and balance sheet risk
  • Evaluating stress-testing and scenario-analysis outcomes to identify vulnerabilities and support informed risk decisions
  • Advising senior stakeholders on emerging treasury and balance sheet risks and potential implications for the organization
  • Supporting effective risk governance through clear, timely reporting and escalation of material exposures, breaches, and emerging concerns
  • Strengthening risk-management practices by promoting robust controls, clear accountabilities, and a forward-looking risk culture

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

  • A bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business, mathematics, statistics, or another relevant discipline
  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in financial services risk management, treasury risk, asset and liability management, or a closely related field, including senior leadership experience
  • Deep knowledge of liquidity risk, funding risk, interest rate risk, market risk, balance sheet management, and financial risk governance
  • Demonstrated experience providing independent risk oversight and constructive challenge to senior business and treasury stakeholders
  • Strong experience with risk appetite, limits, stress testing, scenario analysis, risk reporting, and financial risk frameworks
  • Proven ability to interpret complex quantitative information and communicate its business and risk implications to senior stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of financial institution balance sheets, treasury activities, and the interaction between risk, capital, liquidity, and funding
  • A relevant professional designation such as Financial Risk Manager, Chartered Financial Analyst, or another recognized financial risk or treasury credential

Extra Skills That Set You Apart:

  • Experience working within a Canadian federally or provincially regulated financial institution
  • Advanced knowledge of asset and liability management methodologies, modelling, and financial risk analytics
  • Experience presenting financial risk matters to executive-level or board-level governance forums

You’ll Thrive Here If You Are:

  • Strategic - Able to connect detailed treasury and balance sheet exposures to broader enterprise risk and business considerations
  • Analytical - Comfortable interpreting complex financial information and identifying the risks and implications that matter most
  • Influential - Able to provide credible, independent challenge while building productive relationships with senior stakeholders
  • Forward-looking - Proactive in identifying emerging financial risks and considering how changing conditions may affect the balance sheet

We value lived experience, so if you are interested in this role, we encourage you to apply even if you feel your skills don't perfectly align with those listed.
