Your Role in Supporting Our Members:
As a Quality Engineering Lead, you will provide senior technical and program-level Quality Engineering leadership for complex, business-critical initiatives. Your initial assignment will be to lead Quality Engineering across Vancity’s Commercial Banking Transformation program, followed by other strategic initiatives across Vancity.
You will define and execute an integrated Quality Engineering approach across multiple workstreams, platforms, vendors, and delivery teams. You will ensure that quality, reliability, security, accessibility, performance, and production readiness are built into delivery and supported by clear, traceable evidence.
This is a senior, hands-on engineering leadership role rather than a traditional Quality Assurance Lead or test coordination position. You will lead Quality Engineers and workstream QE leads in a dotted-line capacity while contributing directly to automation strategy, API validation, technical problem-solving, quality governance, risk management, and delivery execution.
You must be comfortable moving between executive-level program reporting and detailed engineering discussions while bringing internal teams, vendors, and business stakeholders together around a consistent and accountable approach to quality.
This is a full-time, permanent role based at Vancity’s head office. Our head office is based in Vancouver, but we are open to candidates in British Columbia and Ontario. While this position provides a hybrid work arrangement, you will be expected to be on-site for events and business needs when required.
How You'll Make an Impact:
Complex Program Quality Engineering Leadership
- Lead end-to-end Quality Engineering for the CBX program as the initial assignment, followed by other strategic and complex initiatives across Vancity.
- Establish and execute the overall Quality Engineering strategy, test plan, delivery roadmap, quality gates, governance model, and reporting approach for programs involving multiple workstreams, platforms, integrations, and delivery partners.
- Provide program-level leadership across functional testing, API certification, system integration testing, regression testing, accessibility, performance, security, operational readiness, production validation, and other applicable quality activities.
- Coordinate Quality Engineering activities across workstream QE leads, Quality Engineers, product teams, engineering teams, architecture, business stakeholders, operations teams, and vendors.
- Maintain a complete view of program quality, including scope coverage, requirements readiness, test design progress, execution status, automation coverage, environment readiness, test data readiness, defect risk, dependencies, and release readiness.
- Translate program milestones and business objectives into executable Quality Engineering plans, measurable readiness criteria, and traceable quality evidence.
- Identify cross-workstream risks, gaps, overlaps, and dependencies that may not be visible within individual delivery teams.
- Provide concise, evidence-based reporting to program leadership and governance forums, including progress, risks, decisions, quality indicators, and recommendations.
- Lead Quality Engineering planning and execution through ambiguity, evolving requirements, integration dependencies, vendor constraints, and changing program priorities.
- Establish clear accountability for quality deliverables across internal teams and third-party providers without duplicating delivery ownership.
Commercial Banking Transformation
- Apply hands-on CBX or directly comparable commercial banking transformation experience to lead quality across complex member journeys, banking capabilities, integrations, data flows, and operational processes.
- Understand and validate end-to-end commercial banking journeys across digital channels, core banking services, account management, money movement, access management, entitlements, alerts, credit card services, data migration, and related integration points.
- Lead Quality Engineering across modern digital banking platforms and their integration with core banking, payment, document, identity, card, customer information, and third-party systems.
- Ensure that business requirements, features, application programming interfaces, integration contracts, test scenarios, automated tests, defects, and release evidence remain traceable throughout delivery.
- Define risk-based test coverage for complex banking workflows, including authorization, entitlements, transaction processing, exception handling, reconciliation, auditability, accessibility, security, and operational controls.
- Coordinate testing across multiple vendors and internal delivery teams, ensuring that responsibilities, dependencies, entry criteria, exit criteria, evidence requirements, and defects are clearly understood and managed.
- Support certification, integration, business validation, release governance, and production readiness activities by providing defensible quality evidence and clear recommendations.
- Ensure that Quality Engineering planning addresses regulatory, privacy, security, accessibility, audit, and operational expectations applicable to financial services.
Quality Strategy, Governance & Planning
- Translate enterprise Quality Engineering strategy and technical direction into executable program plans aligned with business outcomes, delivery milestones, and risk.
- Establish a scalable Quality Engineering operating model that can be applied across CBX and future strategic initiatives.
- Champion a shift-left quality approach by engaging Quality Engineering early in requirements, design, architecture, API contract, and acceptance-criteria reviews to identify risks, clarify expected outcomes, and improve testability before implementation begins.
- Define test levels, quality gates, entry and exit criteria, ownership boundaries, escalation paths, and evidence requirements.
- Establish a risk-based approach to test planning and execution that prioritizes critical member journeys, business processes, integrations, data flows, and operational controls.
- Ensure quality activities are planned early and integrated into requirements, design, development, deployment, and release decisions.
- Implement measurable quality indicators covering requirements readiness, test design, execution, automation, defects, environments, test data, non-functional testing, and release readiness.
- Use delivery data and quality signals to identify trends, forecast risks, and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure Quality Engineering artifacts and evidence are complete, traceable, consistent, and suitable for governance, audit, and release decision-making.
- Challenge unclear requirements, unsupported quality claims, incomplete evidence, and delivery decisions that introduce unacceptable risk.
Technical Leadership
- Provide senior, hands-on technical leadership across the Quality Engineering community.
- Lead and coach Quality Engineers and workstream QE leads in automation design, API testing, test architecture, data validation, troubleshooting, and risk-based testing.
- Review test designs, automation approaches, technical solutions, and quality evidence for scalability, maintainability, and alignment with program risks.
- Guide teams through complex problems involving integrations, distributed systems, environments, data, vendor solutions, and end-to-end business processes.
- Build alignment across teams through technical credibility, clear evidence, and sound business judgment while raising Quality Engineering capability and standards.
Automation & Tools
- Define and evolve scalable, API-first automation across service, integration, data, and targeted user interface layers.
- Apply modern API testing practices, including contract testing, schema validation, service virtualization, integration testing, and data-driven validation.
- Integrate automated quality controls and risk-based quality gates into development and deployment pipelines to provide early, reliable feedback.
- Measure and improve automation effectiveness based on coverage, reliability, defect detection, maintenance effort, and feedback speed.
- Apply reusable, AI-assisted, agentic, and specification-driven techniques with appropriate human review, technical validation, and traceability.
Quality Advocacy & Delivery Partnership
- Partner with product, engineering, architecture, operations, security, accessibility, and delivery teams to build quality into requirements, design, development, deployment, and release decisions.
- Improve solution testability, observability, logging, error handling, data validation, and diagnostic capability.
- Promote early validation and defect prevention over downstream detection and repeated manual testing.
- Lead root cause analysis for significant defects and production issues, ensuring corrective actions address process, design, code, automation, environment, and data causes.
- Provide an independent, evidence-based Quality Engineering perspective and escalate material risks early with practical recommendations, accountable owners, and decision points.
Hands-On Engineering
- Design, build, review, and troubleshoot automated validation across API, service, integration, data, system, and targeted user interface layers.
- Validate complex end-to-end workflows spanning multiple systems, vendors, environments, and data sources.
- Contribute directly to automation frameworks, shared utilities, test harnesses, pipeline integration, test data solutions, and technical proofs of concept.
- Use logs, service responses, databases, events, and monitoring information to diagnose failures and isolate root causes.
- Partner with specialist teams to support performance, security, accessibility, reliability, and regression validation.
What You’ll Bring to the Team
Mandatory Experience
- 10 or more years of experience in software engineering, Quality Engineering, test engineering, or a closely related field.
- Hands-on Quality Engineering experience with Intellect Design Arena’s Contextual Banking experience platform or directly comparable commercial banking transformation experience is mandatory. This must include functional, API, integration, data, end-to-end, and automation testing within a complex commercial banking implementation. Experience limited to program oversight, vendor management, or test coordination will not meet this requirement.
- Hands-on experience testing Temenos T24 or a similar core banking platform is mandatory, including direct involvement in functional, integration, API, data, or end-to-end testing.
- Demonstrated experience leading end-to-end Quality Engineering for a complex program involving multiple workstreams, integrated platforms, internal teams, third-party vendors, and major business or technology dependencies.
- Strong hands-on automation engineering and programming experience, including designing scalable frameworks, reviewing code and architecture, integrating automated tests into delivery pipelines, and troubleshooting technical failures.
- Strong understanding of commercial banking journeys, digital banking platforms, core banking integrations, access and entitlement models, transaction processing, data migration, and operational readiness.
- Experience developing risk-based test strategies and plans covering functional, API, integration, end-to-end, regression, performance, security, accessibility, reliability, resilience, and production readiness.
- Experience establishing traceability and evidence-based reporting across requirements, test coverage, automation, defects, environments, test data, risks, and release readiness.
- Demonstrated ability to lead workstream QE leads and senior Quality Engineers through influence in a matrix or dotted-line model while communicating technical status, risks, and recommendations in clear business language.

What You’ll Earn:
This role offers a salary range of $113,000 to $153,000 per annum. The base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards package, employees may also be eligible for our annual incentive program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
