Position Overview
As a Parts Technician, you will provide prompt, accurate, and professional support to customers, technicians, and service personnel by identifying, sourcing, selling, and managing parts inventory. You will be responsible for maintaining inventory accuracy, coordinating parts orders and deliveries, processing warranties and returns, and ensuring parts operations run efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable service to customers and technicians.
- Handle front and back counter parts requests, including walk-in, phone, and email inquiries.
- Quote, locate, and sell parts based on customer and technician requirements.
- Source parts from internal inventory, manufacturers, and external suppliers.
- Manage incoming and outgoing parts orders, including verification of shipments and completion of required documentation.
- Coordinate inter-branch parts transfers and urgent deliveries.
- Process warranty claims, core returns, and credits accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain inventory accuracy through cycle counts, stock adjustments, and inventory audits.
- Participate in ordering stock and special-order parts to maintain optimal inventory levels.
- Organize and maintain parts storage areas, bin locations, labeling, and merchandising standards.
- Provide updates to customers and service departments regarding order status, delays, substitutions, and alternative solutions.
- Train and mentor junior parts personnel or apprentices as required.
- Maintain accurate records using dealership management systems, inventory software, and point-of-sale systems.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and operational standards.
- Support other departments and special projects as required.
Qualifications & Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a Parts Technician Apprenticeship or equivalent industry experience.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driver's abstract.
- Previous experience in a dealership, trucking, transportation, or heavy-duty repair environment.
- Strong knowledge of truck, trailer, and equipment parts and components.
- Ability to read and interpret parts catalogs, schematics, technical diagrams, and manufacturer documentation.
- Proficiency with inventory management software, POS systems, and dealership management systems.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven problem-solving abilities and customer-focused attitude.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Journeyperson Parts Technician Certification.
- Experience with OEM and aftermarket heavy-duty truck parts.
- Previous shipper/receiver experience.
- Experience managing inventory and warehouse operations.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent lifting and carrying of parts and materials.
- Ability to stand, bend, climb, kneel, and move throughout the facility for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in a warehouse, parts department, and shop environment.
- Ability to safely handle heavy and awkwardly shaped parts.
