Original job description
Senior Marine Claims Adjuster
Are you an experienced marine claims professional who knows how to take ownership of a claim from first notice through to final settlement? Do you bring strong technical judgment, confidence dealing with complex files, and a customer-first approach to claims?
Victory Marine Underwriting Managers is looking for a Senior Marine Claims Adjuster to manage Yacht and Commercial Marine claims and play an important role in delivering a responsive, professional claims experience for brokers and customers. This is a hands-on position for someone who can independently investigate, assess, adjust and settle claims while working collaboratively with underwriting partners and other stakeholders.
In this role, you will:
- Manage Yacht and Commercial Marine claims from initial reporting through settlement.
- Act as a first point of contact for claims reported by external brokers and respond professionally to customer inquiries by email, telephone or in person.
- Set up claim files and maintain complete and accurate documentation throughout the claims process.
- Investigate, assess and adjust claims within the authority granted by underwriters.
- Report claims to the appropriate underwriter or insurance company when the claim falls outside in-house authority or when coverage issues arise.
- Coordinate with surveyors, independent adjusters and trades as appropriate throughout the claims process.
- Keep clients informed regarding claim progress and status.
- Maintain accurate claims bordereaux, including reserves, amounts paid and open/closed file status, and submit bordereaux to underwriters monthly.
- Ensure claims are entered into Epic and appropriately updated as they progress.
- Prepare claims updates and reports for Senior Account Executives and Management when required.
- Support the implementation of new business initiatives and directives.
- Represent the organization at industry functions.
- Help support the development of colleagues through training and mentoring.
The ideal candidate brings:
- 5+ years of claims adjusting experience, including investigation, reserve setting and settlement.
- Several years of experience specifically within marine insurance.
- Strong critical-thinking skills and the ability to evaluate different options and reach well-reasoned conclusions.
- The ability to organize and prioritize multiple files while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.
- Strong written communication skills, including preparing correspondence and clear file notes.
- Confidence working with numbers and calculating claims settlements using Excel.
- The ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively across teams.
- Strong interpersonal and customer-service skills, with an ability to build trusted relationships.
- The ability to communicate and present credibly with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word, and Outlook, along with familiarity with an agency management system.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development through industry education, workshops, seminars and conferences.
- Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) in good standing with the Insurance Council is preferred.
