Payroll & Benefits Specialist

Our client is seeking a Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join their Finance and Accounting team at their Burnaby head office. This role is well suited to a detail-oriented payroll professional who enjoys a variety of responsibilities, values accuracy, and thrives in a collaborative, close-knit team environment.

Reporting to the Manager, Payroll and Benefits, this newly created role will take ownership of Canadian payroll processing, benefits administration, and related compliance and reporting.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Process semi-monthly Canadian multi-province full-cycle payroll accurately and on time.
Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual provincial payroll reporting, file provincial WCB claim forms, and coordinate modified return-to-work duties with managers.
Manage Canadian payroll remittances, including CPP, EI, QPP, QPIP, and EHT, while keeping current with applicable employment standards and payroll requirements.
Review provincial compliance requirements for notice periods and statutory severance, and coordinate signed company policies and leave documentation with HR.
Administer extended health benefits and RRSP programs and prepare employer statements for short- and long-term disability claims.
Prepare journal entries and reconciliations, generate standard and ad hoc payroll reports, and respond to general employee payroll and benefits inquiries.
Maintain employee data integrity and system access, collect and retain signed pay-change letters, process annual increases and bonuses, and prepare and validate T4s and RL-1s at year-end.

What You Bring

Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field coupled with a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation.
Five or more years of relevant payroll experience, including hands-on full-cycle multi-province payroll processing.
Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation and a commitment to maintaining current practices.
Demonstrated ability to work accurately in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, with strong judgment and attention to detail.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, along with intermediate to advanced payroll software and Microsoft Excel knowledge.

A comprehensive compensation package with a base salary of $75,000 to $80,000 per year, depending on experience, plus annual bonus of up to 10%.
