- Conduct Marshall and/or Superpave testing, including asphalt binder content, aggregate gradation, relative density, air voids, RAP evaluation and pavement core testing, as required.
- Prepare and verify test specimens, calculations and results, ensuring accuracy, completeness and timely reporting of irregularities or non-conforming results
Quality compliance, documentation and reporting
- Ensure sampling and testing activities comply with the Viola Quality Manual, approved mix designs, contractual specifications and applicable OPSS, MTO and municipal requirements.
- Maintain accurate and traceable testing records, inspection reports and daily documentation while communicating results and quality concerns promptly to the QC Manager and relevant operational personnel.
- Identify and document non-conformances, support investigations and corrective actions, and maintain confidentiality, impartiality and integrity throughout all quality control activities.
Equipment, coordination and continuous improvement
- Inspect, maintain and verify field and laboratory testing equipment, ensuring proper calibration, accurate performance and compliance with established quality procedures.
- Coordinate daily testing priorities with the QC Manager and collaborate with plant operations, paving crews, clients and external agencies to meet production schedules and quality requirements.
- Participate in quality audits, CCIL proficiency testing and continuous improvement initiatives while supporting corrective actions, process improvements and training of junior personnel.

- Knowledge of asphalt production and paving, Marshall/Superpave fundamentals, sampling practices and common test procedures; familiarity with OPSS, MTO, municipal specifications and CCIL programs is an asset.
- CCIL hot mix asphalt technician certification or other relevant certifications are assets; ability and willingness to obtain required qualifications and maintain demonstrated competency.
- Valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence with an acceptable driving record, as travel to active facilities and project sites is required.
- Competence with Microsoft Word and Excel, mobile inspection tools and electronic quality-management records; strong written communication and practical numerical skills.
