ABOUT US

Vision Law Group is a small but growing Edmonton-based firm providing full-service legal representation to individuals, families, and businesses. Our practice spans all areas of law including but not limited to civil litigation, criminal law, family law, real estate, and immigration matters. We are a small, close-knit team that works collaboratively and treats each other with genuine respect. We welcome and celebrate candidates from all backgrounds and are committed to building a diverse team that reflects the communities we serve.

THE ROLE

We are looking for a motivated and organized Legal Assistant Paralegal to support our litigation team. You will work closely with lawyers on active files, help keep matters moving forward, and play a key role in ensuring clients receive timely and professional service. This is a great opportunity for someone who takes pride in their work, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and wants to be part of a growing firm. We are looking for someone to start in mid-October 2026 or November 2026. This is a full-time position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare, draft, and format legal documents including pleadings, affidavits, correspondence, and court materials
File documents with the Court of King's Bench and Provincial Court, both in person and electronically
Manage and maintain lawyer calendars, court deadlines, and limitation dates
Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and court registry staff in a professional manner
Open, organize, and maintain physical and electronic client files
Assist with scheduling discoveries, hearings, mediations, and other appearances
Prepare and organize materials for court appearances, discoveries, and trials
Assist with general office administrative tasks as needed

WHO THRIVES HERE

This role is a great fit if you are someone who takes ownership of their work and does not need to be micromanaged. You are organized, detail-oriented, and proactive. You anticipate what needs to happen next on a file and you make it happen. You are a quick learner who picks up new areas, processes, and systems without much hand-holding. You communicate clearly and professionally with clients and you understand that in a small firm, every person on the team matters. You are comfortable with some ambiguity, adaptable when priorities shift, and you bring a positive attitude to the work even when it gets busy.

If that sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.

QUALIFICATIONS

Legal assistant diploma or paralegal certificate from a recognized institution, or equivalent experience
Minimum 1 to 3 years of experience in a litigation environment is preferred but not required. We are also open to candidates with more experience, and compensation will reflect your level of experience. Candidates with strong administrative backgrounds and a genuine interest in litigation are encouraged to apply
Experience in family law, civil litigation, immigration, or criminal law is preferred but not required
Familiarity with Alberta court procedures and filing requirements is a strong asset
Exceptional organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously without dropping the ball
Proactive approach to work. You anticipate what is needed and act on it without being asked
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Outlook, and/or Google Drive and Google Workspace
Experience with Clio or other legal practice management software is a strong asset and familiarity with Clio specifically is a plus
Professional written and verbal communication skills
Fluency in a language other than English is an asset

WHAT WE OFFER

Competitive compensation commensurate with experience. We welcome applications from candidates at various experience levels, and compensation will be based on your background
Mentorship, training, and support in a collaborative environment. We are invested in your growth and development
Significant potential for growth within the firm as we continue to expand
Flexible working arrangements and scheduling. We are a small firm and we are not rigid about how, when, or which days you work, as long as the work gets done and clients are served
We genuinely value work-life balance and trust our team to manage their time like the professionals they are
Free parking at our office
A collaborative, respectful, and diverse team environment

WORK LOCATION

This is primarily an in-office position at our Edmonton location. In-person attendance is expected on most days, with the potential for some work-from-home days as needed and by arrangement.

HOW TO APPLY

Note: If your LinkedIn profile or cover letter does not show that you are currently based in Edmonton or actively planning to relocate here, your application will not be considered. We have a limit on the number of applications we can review on LinkedIn, so we kindly ask that you only apply if you meet the location requirement. This helps us give proper attention to every qualified applicant and respects everyone's time.

You can apply through LinkedIn directly, or send your resume and cover letter by email to ajaygill@visionlawgroup.ca with the subject line "Litigation Paralegal Application." If the LinkedIn posting shows as closed, please apply by email instead.

In your cover letter, please address the following:

Your experience in a legal or professional office environment and the types of work you have done
How you stay organized and manage competing deadlines when things get busy
Your experience with Clio or any other legal practice management software, if any
Your salary range expectations
Your earliest available start date and any notice period obligations. We are looking for someone to start in mid-October or November 2026.
If you speak any languages other than English, please indicate which ones and your level of proficiency

If you have any questions or would like to learn more about the role before applying, feel free to reach out to Ajay Gill directly on LinkedIn.
