Original job description

What Vista Does

Vista Projects is an integrated engineering firm who has been solving complex challenges in the energy industry since 1985. We are innovators at our core. We continually find better, smarter ways to design and deliver oil and gas projects, and we are proud to be contributing on some of the most exciting low-carbon and synthetic fuel developments in the North America. For our people, that means meaningful, varied work and a real chance to shape how modern engineering gets done.

We are innovators in the energy industry. We actively find ways to improve how oil and gas projects are designed and delivered, and we are contributing to some remarkable low-carbon and synthetic fuel developments; including electro sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) and gas-to-liquids (GTL) projects. We are headquartered in Calgary and maintain a satellite office in Houston.

Why We Do It

The world needs energy, and better engineering makes the projects that deliver it safer, more efficient and more sustainable. Our multi-discipline teams have designed some of the most challenging and successful projects in the North American energy sector, from early-stage studies and pilots to large-scale commercial expansions. We take pride in doing that work well, and just as much pride in continuously improving how we do it.

What You Would Do in This Role

The System Integration Project Manager leads the delivery of SI projects at the intersection of engineering data, application development and emerging AI tooling. This role coordinates the technical, administrative, and financial details of each project so the execution team can focus on exceptional service and technical excellence. Activities include estimation, planning/scheduling, change management, identification and mitigation of risks, progress reporting, and coordination with disciplines outside the SI department. The Project Manager must understand the overall direction, priority and schedules to execute the project.

This is not a traditional project administration role. The right candidate thinks like an engineer, manages like a delivery lead, and is energized by applying AI tools to real industrial problems, for both Vista internal operations and client-facing project delivery.

Duties include:

Managing scope, schedule, budget, and resourcing for concurrent SI projects, including AI-assisted applications, ETL/data integrations, and digital twin deployments
Maintaining action item lists from project meetings and following up with responsible parties
Identifying and facilitating the removal of roadblocks encountered by the technical team
Coordinating management of change activities (scope changes, trends, DCNs)
Coordinating and maintaining risk registers, including data integrity, security, and AI-specific risks (data privacy, output accuracy, client data governance)
Participating in schedule review meetings and reviewing and preparing status reports
Supporting the preparation of scopes of work, project estimates, and interfaces (e.g., DBM, PEP, RACI chart, reports), including scoping and estimating rapid-prototype and AI-powered solutions
Translating client and internal business needs into clear requirements for the technical team, and identifying fit-for-purpose opportunities for automation and AI
Using AI tools (LLM assistants, workflow automation) to streamline project administration such as meeting summaries, action tracking, status reporting, and estimate preparation
Supporting business development for the SI group
Performing business analytics to support the development of digital twins
Liaising across Engineering, Design, Project Management, and IT to align on solutions and interfaces
Liaising with the SI Manager to outline project-specific resourcing
Ensuring clear documentation, workflows, and training materials are delivered to project teams and clients
Executing tasks of a technical nature to support the initiatives of the team
Performing other duties as requested

Requirements

Post-secondary education in engineering, design, computer science, management information systems, or project management
5 years of demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
Working understanding of data integration concepts (ETL, relational databases, APIs) sufficient to plan and manage technical work
Comfort working with messy, real-world engineering or industrial data
Ability to meet safety requirements to attend site visits across North America
Practical experience with AI/LLM tools: prompt engineering, using AI assistants to accelerate work, and enough understanding of how AI-augmented applications are built (LLM integration, RAG, workflow automation) to scope, estimate, and manage their delivery
Advanced Microsoft Office software skills
Excellent command of the English language (both written and verbal)
Strong communicator, able to translate complex technical architectures and data into clear, actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders and leadership
Proactive in anticipating the needs of internal and external clients
Self-starter with a bias toward delivery: get a working version in front of the client early, then refine
Able to quickly develop rapport with staff and clients
Detail orientation and good organizational skills
Strong presentation skills
Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team comprised of engineers, designers, developers, and project support personnel
Team player with a positive attitude and always willing to accept new challenges

Preferred

10 years’ related experience in engineering and design with a knowledge of engineering documentation required through the project lifecycle
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or applied science with project execution experience including design, engineering, and supply chain management
A background in, or strong exposure to, industrial/energy sector engineering workflows (pipeline, oil sands, facilities, or similar)
Experience with development or project management of Digital Twins for project execution and/or operations and maintenance
Experience managing delivery of software, AI, or data integration projects, including iterative or agile delivery methods
Experience with RAG (retrieval-augmented generation) pipelines, vector databases, or document intelligence applications
Exposure to machine learning model development or predictive analytics
Experience in data visualization and analysis (e.g., Power BI or similar tools)
Hands-on scripting or development experience (Python, .NET, SQL, or similar)
Strong knowledge of engineering terms and document types, and the ability to read and interpret engineering documentation
Understanding of IT and cloud-based infrastructure
Experience with AVEVA tools (e.g., Engineering, Instrumentation, Electrical, E3D, AVEVA NET / AIM, ERM)
Provide mentorship and support to less experienced team members

Why People Like Vista

We do not just say we're a great place to work, our people do. Vista has been recognized by Great Place to Work as one of the Best Workplaces in Canada, a Best Workplace for Mental Health, and a Best Workplace for Women. These awards are earned through confidential surveys completed by our own team, so they reflect how people here actually feel and not just how we choose to describe ourselves.

What our people value most is how we work together. You will join experienced leaders and mentors who are genuinely invested in your growth, in teams built around collaboration rather than silos. We hire capable people, trust them to do their best work, and treat them as people rather than employee numbers. We are proud of the culture this creates, and we work hard to protect it as we grow.

Vista is also a place for people who like to make this better. If you are energized by innovating, by questioning how things are done and by helping vista continuously improve, you will be in good company. We back that work with strong, modern project systems run by people who know how to get the most from them, but it is our people, not our tools, that make Vista what it is.

What We Offer

An opportunity with Vista is more than a job. It is the chance to do challenging meaningful work alongside talented and supportive colleagues who want to see you succeed.

Vista offers all employees

A challenging and rewarding work environment where you will contribute to meaningful projects across the energy industry
Talented, collaborative colleagues who are invested in one another's success
The chance to work alongside some of the sharpest minds in the industry, where your ideas are heard and innovation is part of how we actually work, not just something we say
A strong value-based philosophy that provides an informal, close-knit team environment, where you and your family feel like a part of our organization, and not just an employee number
Competitive compensation and benefits, including a performance-linked variable pay program
Company-sponsored social events and team sports
Half-day Fridays and free parking
An organization that values and encourages diversity

How to Apply

Please complete the application form below and include a cover letter concisely demonstrating how your skills and experience align with our job posting. By submitting this application, you consent to our Privacy Policy, and you consent to receive transactional electronic messages from Vista and third parties acting on our behalf.

Note: As part of the interview process there will be a technical testing component that will take up to two hours and can be completed at home on your own timeline. Candidates may be required to complete a security clearance procedure prior to receiving an offer.
