Original job description

The Community Support Worker assists individuals with developmental disabilities in pursuing community-based activities and achieving personal goals. They provide one-to-one or small group support while ensuring the health, safety, and social inclusion of the individuals served.

The Burnaby Association for Community Inclusion (BACI) is a community living organization that supports people with developmental disabilities across the life span to live a ‘good life.’ Our Community Inclusion (Day Program) is looking for a Community Support Worker to work with people to pursue activities in the community based on individual interests, gifts, and defined goals. This role supports people to become active members of the community discovering and engaging with places of belonging.

Position: Regular Full-Time Community Support Worker

Location: Community Based – Burnaby/Tri-Cities/Vancouver

SALARY

$27.53/hour

HOURS

37.5 hours/week

Schedule

Monday -
Friday (8am-3:30pm)

Responsibilities

Support people in one-to-one and small group settings.
Ensuring that individuals are connected to friends and family.
Providing individuals with the opportunity to make meaningful choices.
Encouraging and recognizing individuals' contributions.
Ensuring that individuals are safe and to promote their health and well-being.
Assist individuals to gain knowledge and experiences to enhance their independence and/or ability to participate in their community.
Accessing community centres, swimming, participating in outdoor activities.

Qualifications

The ability to work effectively both as a team member and independently is essential.
Experience and specialized training related to autism, medical needs and/or challenging behaviours is an asset.
Knowledge and ability to use alternative communication systems would be an asset.
Knowledge of principles of Person-Centered Thinking and Planning preferred
Working knowledge of computers/mobile apps is necessary.
A valid unrestricted BC Class 5 Driver’s License and use of personal vehicle are required.
This position requires TB screen/self-assessment, Vaccination/Immunization status disclosure.

This position is open to all candidates and requires union membership. Requirements

Candidates must possess a valid unrestricted BC Class 5 Driver’s License and have access to a personal vehicle. Experience with autism, medical needs, or challenging behaviors is considered an asset, along with knowledge of person-centered planning.
