The Safe House Support Worker provides compassionate, client-centered support to individuals and families experiencing family violence through crisis intervention, case management, and advocacy. They also facilitate workshops, maintain client records, and contribute to the daily operations of the safe house in a culturally responsive manner.

The Carrier Sekani Family Services Safe House program provides emergency sheltering, education, advocacy, referrals and healing services in a culturally immersed manner to women and children escaping family violence. The safe house is centrally located in Burns Lake and is available to women and their children affected by family violence throughout Northern BC.

The Safe House Support Worker is responsible for providing a range of support services and activities to work toward healing and empowerment of the women and children accessing our services.

As leaders in Indigenous health and family services, Carrier Sekani Family Services (CSFS) is committed to practicing differently by placing culture at the centre of everything we do. Working in partnership with Nation Elders, Hereditary Chiefs, communities, and families, we have grown since the late 1980s into a trusted organization of more than 600 employees serving 11 member Nations across Northern British Columbia. Through culturally grounded services, we honour the strengths, experiences, and values of Indigenous peoples while supporting the health and well-being of the communities we serve.

What You’ll Do

As a Safe House Support Worker, you will provide compassionate, client-centered support to individuals and families experiencing family violence and crisis.

You will support clients through intake, crisis intervention, case management, advocacy, life skills development, and aftercare services.

You will empower residents to build independence through support with housing, employment, budgeting, parenting, and accessing community resources, while facilitating workshops and recreational activities for adults and children.

You will help deliver culturally responsive services and traditional activities that promote healing, wellness, and resilience.

This role also includes maintaining client records and reports, participating in team meetings and training, contributing to the daily operation of the Safe House, and fostering a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for all residents.

Qualifications

Diploma in Human or Social Services, Community Services, and/or related fields; or
Certificate plus 2 years’ experience
Equivalent combination of education, experience and knowledge.

What We Offer

This role pays between $29.919 and $35.737 per hour, with most candidates starting between the minimum and midpoint. Where you land in the range will depend on your experience, skills, and overall fit, along with considerations like market conditions and internal equity.
