Original job description

Who is Nortrak

Build a rewarding career with voestalpine Railway Systems Nortrak, North America's premier special trackwork designer and manufacturer with a 160-year legacy of rail innovation. Part of the global voestalpine Railway Systems network, we deliver quality products and services spanning rails, turnouts, fastening systems, and systems solutions. Across Canada, the US and Mexico, we prioritize our people's well-being, global mobility, sustainability and innovation.

Our skilled, motivated and results-driven people underpin our success, living our values of Respect, Responsibility, Curiosity, Courage, Passion and Diversity. Together, we share responsibility for safety and quality, support one another's growth, serve our customers and build strong relationships within Nortrak and with our customers.

Opportunity

We are looking for a curious, hands-on finance professional who wants to understand how a business works - not just report its results. Reporting to the CFO and VP, Business Controlling, you will support the day-to-day financial and business needs of one small manufacturing plant, provide additional capacity for financial planning and analysis (FP&A), and contribute to compliance and risk management activities across the company.

This is a broad, evolving role for someone comfortable moving between routine tasks and complex questions. You will work closely with plant and finance colleagues, take ownership of unfamiliar assignments, and turn analysis into practical improvements. The focus is on building understanding, strengthening processes and delivering results that last - not simply achieving short-term wins.

What You will Do

Plant Finance and Business Support

Serve as a hands-on finance resource for different plants, helping resolve day-to-day reporting, transaction and business process questions.
Support month-end activities, account reconciliations and accurate financial reporting in coordination with the corporate controlling team.
Work with plant colleagues to understand costs, inventory, productivity and operating results; investigate variances and identify practical actions.
Help improve data quality, financial discipline and follow-through on operational issues.

Financial Planning Analysis

Support budgets, forecasts and management reporting, including the preparation and validation of supporting data.
Analyze financial and operational performance, explain key drivers, and translate findings into clear insights for decision-making.
Develop and maintain models and analyses for costs, working capital, capital investments and other business questions.
Provide flexible analytical support to the CFO and VP, Business Controlling as priorities evolve.

Compliance and Risk Management

Assist with internal controls, policy compliance, process documentation and audit preparation.
Help gather and validate information for risk assessments, compliance reviews and related reporting.
Track agreed actions, maintain supporting records and follow up with process owners.
Identify control gaps and emerging issues, escalate concerns appropriately, and support practical corrective actions.

Continuous Improvement and Special Projects compliance and Risk Management

Question inefficient ways of working and help simplify, standardize or automate recurring activities.
Investigate root causes, test solutions and assess whether changes produce sustained improvements.
Take on cross-functional assignments, learn unfamiliar subjects and adjust your approach as new information emerges.
Document and share what you learn so improvements become repeatable processes rather than one-time fixes.

What You Bring

A foundation in accounting, finance or a related discipline, developed through education, relevant experience or a combination of both.
Experience with financial analysis, reporting or accounting; exposure to manufacturing, plant operations or cost accounting is an asset.
Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial systems and data; experience with ERP systems or business intelligence tools is an asset.
The ability to connect financial information with operational realities, investigate discrepancies and communicate conclusions clearly.
Sound judgement, attention to detail and discretion when handling confidential information.
A collaborative approach and the ability to manage competing priorities, clarify expectations and follow through on commitments.

How You Approach Your Work

You take initiative. You identify what needs attention, ask thoughtful questions and move work forward without waiting for detailed instructions.
You learn independently. You research unfamiliar topics, seek input when needed and apply what you learn.
You welcome variety. You are willing to tackle different assignments and give routine responsibilities the same care as complex projects.
You work through complexity. You break ambiguous problems into manageable parts, challenge assumptions and stay engaged until you find a workable solution.
You keep improving. You look beyond completing a task to making the next cycle more accurate, efficient and useful.
You think long term. You want to build expertise and earn broader responsibility over time, balancing immediate needs with lasting business value.

What Success Looks Like

You become a dependable resource for the operations and finance team, produce analysis that supports better decisions, and help close compliance and risk-related actions. Over time, your contribution is reflected in stronger processes, fewer recurring issues and a deeper understanding of the business - not just a list of completed tasks.

Qualifications

CPA designation preferred.
Public accounting experience and/or 3+ years of experience in an industrial environment following completion of a bachelor’s degree.
Strong writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues clearly to financial and non-financial audiences.

Salary and Benefits

Base salary: CAD $95,000–$120,000 per year, based on relevant experience, qualifications and demonstrated capabilities.
Benefits:
Eligibility for Nortrak’s extended health care, dental and long-term disability plans after three months of employment, subject to the applicable plan terms and eligibility requirements.
Required participation in Nortrak’s retirement program after six months of employment, with RRSP matched contribution.

Interested?

If you enjoy learning how a business operates, solving challenging problems and building improvements that last, we would like to hear from you. Please submit your résumé and a brief note describing a problem you took ownership of, how you approached it and what you learned.
