At Volker Stevin, our employees are key to the success of every project, contributing to the legacy we build within the communities we serve. If you’re an experienced operator who takes pride in safe, precise equipment operation and teamwork, we invite you to express your interest in joining our heavy civil crews.
Responding to the Paving Foreman, the Roller Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of breakdown rollers, rubber tire rollers, and finish rollers. This role involves distributing, breaking down, compressing, and finishing the surface of cooling asphalt in multiple stages: breaking down asphalt with a breakdown roller, compressing it with a rubber tire roller, and applying the final finish with a finish roller. This role is headquartered in Lethbridge and Ft. McMurray, and involves travel between both operational locations, accepting applicants from across Alberta. The company will provide and cover travel and accommodation costs for work-related travel outside the designated geographic area.

- Perform regular maintenance and safety checks to ensure equipment reliability and functionality
- Perform successive overlapping passes to compact subgrade and asphalt surfaces to the required smoothness and compaction levels
- Adjust roller speed, pressure, and direction based on material compressibility, temperature, and project requirements to prevent ridges or surface imperfections
- Operate break down rollers to massage and compress hot mix asphalt during the initial compaction phase
- Operate rubber tire rollers to further compact hot mix asphalt to specified standards
- Apply the final finish using finish rollers to remove imperfections and achieve the desired smoothness
- Train and mentor new employees on the safe and effective operation of rollers and other construction equipment
- Assist with other heavy equipment operations and general construction tasks as required to support project goals
- Actively contribute to Volker Stevin Contracting’s safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
What You Bring
