DEEP TECH LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

About the role

Volta is a fast-growing deep tech company, and our R&D laboratory is where our ideas become working hardware. As our Deep Tech Laboratory Technician, you will be at the heart of that process: assembling and testing laser, electro-optical, electronic, and photovoltaic prototypes, and turning test data into better, more reliable products. You will work hand in hand with our engineers, from concept to manufacturing release, and act as the proactive owner of day-to-day lab operations.

Success in this role looks like prototypes that are built and tested with rigor and well documented, a lab that runs smoothly and safely, and test results the whole R&D team can trust and act on. If you love lasers, electronics, and cutting-edge technology - and take pride in work done right - you will fit right in.

Responsibilities

Assemble and test laser, electro-optical, and electronic prototypes, and document the work
Test optical and electronic components such as specialty fibers, laser diodes, printed circuit boards (PCBs), and subsystems
Perform electronics assembly: precision soldering (through-hole and SMT), wiring, connectors, and inspection
Take part in photovoltaic cell, string/array, and panel assembly and testing (interconnection, lamination, I-V curves, electroluminescence)
Perform high-reliability fiber splices and troubleshoot mode-matching, fusion splicing, assembly, and metrology issues
Support environmental testing: set up, run, and monitor thermal cycling, damp heat, humidity-freeze, UV, and mechanical-load campaigns, and report the results
Develop, write, and execute assembly, test, and lab/tool maintenance procedures
Prepare technical drawings for manufacturing release
Run reliability tests and analyze test data to improve performance, simplify manufacturing, and reduce costs
Maintain the test database
Take ownership of laboratory operations: maintain equipment and continuously optimize workflow, layout, cleaning, ordering, inventory, storage, and calibration schedules

Qualifications

College diploma (DEC) in engineering physics technology, electronics, electrical engineering, or equivalent
3–5+ years of experience in high tech as a laboratory, laser, or electronics technician
Hands-on experience with lasers, optics, or electro-optical systems
Strong electronics skills: soldering, reading schematics, using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and bench power supplies
Knowledge of fiber optics
Experience with photovoltaic cell, array, or panel assembly (a strong asset)
Experience with environmental or reliability test equipment - climatic chambers, dataloggers, and thermocouples (an asset)

Responsabilités

Assembler et tester des prototypes laser, électro-optiques et électroniques, et documenter le travail

Tester des composants optiques et électroniques : fibres spécialisées, diodes laser, circuits imprimés (PCB) et sous-systèmes

Réaliser l'assemblage électronique : soudure de précision (traversant et CMS), câblage, connectique et inspection

Participer à l'assemblage et au test de cellules, de chaînes et de panneaux photovoltaïques (interconnexion, lamination, courbes I-V, électroluminescence)

Réaliser des épissures de fibre optique à haute fiabilité et résoudre les problèmes d'appariement de modes, d'épissurage par fusion, d'assemblage et de métrologie

Soutenir les essais environnementaux : préparer, exécuter et suivre les campagnes de cycles thermiques, de chaleur humide, d'humidité-gel, d'exposition UV et de charge mécanique, puis en rapporter les résultats

Développer, rédiger et exécuter les procédures d'assemblage, de test et d'entretien du laboratoire et des outils

Préparer les dessins techniques pour le lancement de la fabrication

Effectuer des tests de fiabilité et analyser les données d'essai afin d'améliorer les performances, de simplifier la fabrication et de réduire les coûts

Maintenir la base de données des tests à jour

Prendre en charge les activités du laboratoire : entretenir les équipements et optimiser en continu le flux de travail, l'aménagement, le nettoyage, les commandes, l'inventaire, le stockage et le calendrier de calibration

Qualifications

DEC en physique (technologie physique), en électronique, en génie électrique ou l'équivalent

3 à 5 ans d'expérience et plus en haute technologie comme technicien(ne) de laboratoire, laser ou électronique

Expérience pratique avec les lasers, l'optique ou les systèmes électro-optiques

Solides compétences en électronique : soudure, lecture de schémas, utilisation de multimètres, d'oscilloscopes et d'alimentations de laboratoire

Connaissance de la fibre optique

Expérience en assemblage de cellules, de chaînes ou de panneaux photovoltaïques (un atout important)
