About The Role

As a Continuing Care Assistant (CCA), you'll use your training to provide person-centred care, support daily living, and help clients stay comfortable and independent in their own homes. You'll travel between clients' homes throughout the day, making every visit matter. Bring your skills to where they're needed most!

What You'll Do

Provide care to clients in the comfort of their own homes
Help develop the client's care plan
Assist with personal care, such as bathing, grooming, and dressing
Aide with mobility and transfers to ensure safety and comfort
Plan and prepare nutritious meals and perform light housekeeping duties
Offer respite care to families, allowing them a much-needed break
Monitor and maintain a safe home environment
Collaborate with healthcare teams
Perform other duties as assigned

What We Are Looking For

Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) certification
PSW, HSW, or similar certifications from another province, relevant certification or work experience, or internationally educated nurses, may be considered if they are currently enrolled in or eligible to enroll in the Nova Scotia CCA Recognizing Prior Learning (RPL) Program
Must have a current Standard First Aid Certificate or CPR level C Certificate
Must enjoy driving, have a personal vehicle and possess both a current driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance
A current and original copy of a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Abuse Registry Check required
Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Funding for CCA Programs at community colleges

Funding is also available for the Continuing Care Assistant Program at community colleges across Nova Scotia. The Nova Scotia Government covers tuition and most program costs for eligible applicants. Please contact your local college for more details.

Working conditions and physical demands: This role requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, with physical activity including lifting, carrying (using proper techniques), bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements that emphasize good body mechanics. Individuals in the role are required to walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs throughout the day, with some tasks requiring fine hand movements.

Responsibilities

Provide person-centred care in clients' homes, including personal care, mobility and transfer assistance, meal preparation, light housekeeping, and respite care. Help develop care plans, maintain a safe home environment, and collaborate with healthcare teams.

Requirements

A Continuing Care Assistant certification is required; candidates with related certifications, relevant experience, or international nursing education may be considered if eligible for or enrolled in Nova Scotia's CCA Recognizing Prior Learning program. Applicants must have Standard First Aid or CPR Level C, a driver's license, a personal vehicle with insurance, satisfactory background checks, and the ability to wear PPE.
