Original job description
Our Client:
Our client designs and builds packaged mechanical systems for commercial buildings, including water reuse and rainwater harvesting systems. They’re looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who wants to take the next step into leading a small engineering team.
This is a hands-on role in a small, close-knit business. Rather than being one of many engineers working on one piece of a large project, you’ll own the full process: designing the system, selecting the components, and seeing it built in the company’s own fabrication facility. The systems are practical mechanical packages, not complex process plants, and there’s real scope to develop new products and applications as the business grows.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a small engineering team of 3 to 4 engineers, designers and application staff.
- Design packaged mechanical systems, including pump selection, piping, controls coordination and component specification.
- Develop new system designs and adapt existing ones for new commercial applications.
- Produce and review drawings and technical documentation for quality, accuracy and constructability.
- Work closely with sales, production and field service teams, from quoting through fabrication, installation and startup.
- Manage engineering priorities, workloads and project deadlines.
- Improve design standards, modular designs and repeatable engineering processes.
What We’re Looking For
- Degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering technology discipline.
- 7+ years of experience designing mechanical systems or packaged equipment. Backgrounds in HVAC, pumps, plumbing, fluid handling, process skids or similar engineered products are all relevant. Water industry experience is not required.
- Some experience leading people or projects, or a genuine desire to step into team leadership.
- Practical understanding of how equipment is fabricated, installed, controlled and commissioned.
- Comfortable in a small team environment and enjoys variety and hands-on work.
- P.Eng. preferred but not essential.
- SolidWorks, AutoCAD or similar design tools an asset.
- Based in the Kitchener / Cambridge / Waterloo area.
Why This Role
This is a chance to step into a leadership role while staying close to design and build. You’ll have ownership of complete systems from concept to commissioning, a well-equipped fabrication facility on site, and the opportunity to help shape the technical direction of a business expanding across Canada and the United States.
