About The Role
The Superintendent provides on-site leadership and coordination throughout all phases of construction. This position is responsible for managing subcontractors, materials, equipment, scheduling, inspections, quality control, and jobsite safety.
The Superintendent is directly responsible for site safety and works jointly with the Project Manager to deliver projects on time and within budget. The role ensures that construction activities are completed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, contract documents, schedules, budgets, and applicable building codes.
Key Responsibilities
- Schedule subcontractors, consultants, and vendors to maintain progress along the critical path and achieve timely project completion.
- Implement and monitor project logistics and execution plans.
- Perform quality control on all work and ensure compliance with contract documents.
- Review timesheets and accurately track labour, material, and equipment costs.
- Coordinate lifting and hoisting activities, including street closures and required permits.
- Schedule and oversee required inspections with authorities and consultants.
- Maintain site safety compliance with WorkSafeBC and the Company Safety Manual.
- Complete hazard assessments, site orientations, safety meetings, and other required safety activities.
- Identify and resolve construction conflicts and notify the project team of deviations from approved plans.
- Maintain detailed daily logs of jobsite activities.
- Manage multiple job sites when required.
- Conduct daily site walks to monitor progress and assist with short-term planning.
- Chair weekly subcontractor coordination meetings.
- Issue notices of non-compliance when necessary to maintain quality and scheduling standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite at all times.
- Prepare two-week lookahead schedules and conduct regular progress reviews.
- Lead daily toolbox meetings with employees and subcontractors to review planned activities, hazards, and safety concerns.
Education, Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Superintendent managing small- and large-scale construction projects, including commercial concrete projects.
- Minimum 5 years of construction management experience.
- Minimum 5 years of concrete forming experience.
- Minimum 5 years of site supervision experience.
- Experience estimating concrete is preferred.
- Proficient with Procore.
- Basic software and technical skills.
- Strong sense of responsibility, discipline, and accountability.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects efficiently and adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong problem-solving and time-management skills.
- Strong leadership and communication abilities.
- Ability to lead, mentor, and develop team members.
