Wag & Bright is a growing Canadian pet care company behind Puppy Polish and Mighty Marrows. We’re founder-led, ambitious, and looking for a financial leader who is excited to help build the business alongside us.

Our team is lean, our work is hands-on, and we’re building the systems and processes to support our next stage of growth.

We’re looking for a commercially minded CFO with an entrepreneurial mindset, strong technical accounting skills, and the resourcefulness to turn plans into action. Someone who sees a challenge, takes ownership, and helps find a way forward.

The opportunity

Working directly with the CEO and COO, you’ll lead financial planning, reporting, cash flow management and the development of our finance function.

This role combines strategy with execution. You should be equally comfortable discussing a growth opportunity, building a financial model, investigating a margin discrepancy, or helping the accounting team improve a process. You won’t need every system to be perfectly established before you can contribute. You’ll help us decide what needs building, what needs improving, and what can stay simple.

What you’ll own

• Financial planning and cash flow. Lead budgets, rolling forecasts and financial modelling, giving leadership clear visibility into performance, working capital and future requirements.
• Accounting and reporting. Take responsibility for accurate, timely financial reporting and strong controls, working with our accounting team and external advisors.
• Costing and profitability. Improve visibility into product costs, inventory, margins and profitability across our sales channels. Help translate those insights into better pricing and operational decisions.
• Systems and processes. Build practical reporting tools, improve workflows and introduce automation where it genuinely saves time or improves accuracy.
• Commercial decision support. Help evaluate business opportunities, spending priorities, capital requirements and the financial implications of growth.
• Financial leadership. Guide and develop the accounting function, coordinate with financial service providers, and oversee compliance and payroll processes.

Who will thrive here

• We’re looking for someone who brings:
• A strong finance foundation. Senior experience as a CFO, Finance Director, VP Finance or Controller, with hands-on expertise in accounting, forecasting and financial modelling. A CPA designation is strongly preferred.
• Relevant business experience. An understanding of b2b, d2c, inventory, product costing and working capital, ideally gained in consumer products, manufacturing, wholesale, distribution or e-commerce.
• An entrepreneurial mindset. You understand how to work with a lean team, prioritise limited resources and build practical solutions without unnecessary complexity.
• Resilience and ownership. You’re comfortable with changing priorities, raise concerns early, and bring recommendations - not just a list of problems.
• Clear communication and sound judgment. You can explain the numbers, challenge assumptions constructively, and work closely with founders and colleagues who aren’t finance specialists.
• Strong Excel and financial modelling skills are essential. Experience with QuickBooks Online and improving financial systems is valuable.

You may already be a CFO, or you may be an accomplished Controller or Finance Director ready for broader responsibility. What matters most is your capability, your approach, and your enthusiasm for this stage of the business.
