Company Overview

Walter Capital Management (WCM) is the management company that brings together the Walter Group’s investment activities across three platforms: private equity (Walter Capital Partners), asset management (Walter Global Asset Management) and public markets (Walter Public Investments). WCM also plays a growing role as a shared-services hub for the broader Walter ecosystem.

WCM is part of the Walter Group, a family investment firm whose team members share the interests and values of the Somers family. Made up of seasoned financial experts, our teams oversee a substantial portfolio whose assets are managed largely in-house.

Driven by a strong entrepreneurial spirit spanning several generations, our teams take a dynamic approach grounded in a long-term investment philosophy. They bring passion to everything they do and build relationships based on trust, integrity, respect and fairness.

Position Summary

We are seeking an efficient, detail-oriented and collaborative analyst to join our Finance Team. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance and Corporate Projects, this role will handle the full accounting cycle of the partnerships and general partner entities, support fund and corporate accounting more broadly, contribute to financial software implementations, and collaborate with internal teams to ensure accuracy and efficiency. If you’re ready to contribute to the success of a growing investment firm specializing in private and public investments, this is an exciting opportunity to make an impact.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
A self-starter who takes initiative and ownership of work responsibilities.
Commitment to excellence and a continuous improvement mindset.
Curiosity and willingness to learn quickly and adapt to new financial software and technology.
Team collaboration approach, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication skills and ability to influence various stakeholders.

Key Responsabilities

Fund & Corporate Accounting

Perform full-cycle accounting for the partnerships and general partner entities of the structure - journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and all supporting work required to prepare standalone financial statements.
Support the fund accounting process, including transactional cash movements, accounting journal entries, and reconciliation of partner equity accounts, along with review and accounting of investment valuations, gains/losses, and carried interest calculations.
Maintain accurate and complete financial data, including accounting for all transactions and changes to portfolio companies’ cap tables and limited partners’ capital accounts.
Handle invoicing of management fees and track accounts receivable to ensure timely collections.

Month-End Close & Reporting

Support the month-end close process, including account reconciliations, variance analysis, and supporting financial statement preparation.
Respond promptly to ad-hoc requests and inquiries, ensuring high-quality, accurate support.

Tax, Regulatory & Compliance

Maintain organizational charts, coordinate entity annual filings and partnership tax declarations, and support the year-end audit for the partnerships.

Process & System Improvements

Maintain the performance measurement and reporting software, ensuring data integrity, accurate inputs, and timely updates.
Participate in ongoing process improvements for the finance department.
Contribute to financial software implementations to optimize accounting operations, including the continuous improvement of our ERP (Sage Intacct) and the implementation of a reporting tool for our clients.

Qualifications

3-5 years of progressive accounting experience; public accounting, audit, or fund administration background is an asset.
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field; professional designation such as CPA is an asset.
Experience in the full accounting cycle for multi-entity corporate structures, including month-end close and financial statement preparation and consolidation.
Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting requirements under IFRS and ASPE.
Advanced Excel skills, including work with large data sets.
Experience with financial software implementations and process improvements in an accounting or finance function; knowledge of Sage Intacct is an asset.
Experience in investment fund accounting or the private equity industry is an asset.
Proficiency in French and English, written and spoken.

WHY JOIN OUR TEAM?

A renowned and growing organization.
A collaborative, entrepreneurial environment with direct exposure to senior leadership.
The chance to help build the distribution engine of a growing investment platform - with a clear path toward greater client-facing responsibility.
Professional development supported through training and access to an extensive ecosystem.
Competitive compensation and benefits, including a private gym, paid vacation from your first day, comprehensive group insurance, and unlimited access to virtual healthcare and wellness programs.
Modern offices with easy public-transit access (next to Atwater station), snacks, fresh fruit, and barista-style coffee.
And much more!
